avoid belt wear r breakage
#1
Just wanted to put this outbecause it seems that alot of you do the same stuff i do such as ordering hop up kits for your quad.Well I installed the rcr stage 1 kit with the orange spring. The new, brand new belt lasted 3hrs. I put up a post and Mike Chero gave some great pointers on why this was happening. Not wanting to lose more money in the long run I had a polaris mechanic check it out. Motor mounts were fine. Clutch alighnment was w/in .003in. He fixed that anyway. Having got ONLY the orange spring and no other clutch mods boosted the engagement to 2800rpm. This caused a tremendous amount of bottom end slip, hence the belt giving out prematurly(sp). His suggestions are to get the hole cluth kit so this excessive belt wear can be avioded, at the least get the appropriate wieghts for the stiffer spring.Hope this post saves some belts. Mine will be sitting for a week or so until i can get an entire clutch kit. Oh yeah, the damage is not limited to the belt, I now have a visible groove on the front clutch.

biggin,
I kind of forgot to mention that the sheaves on the clutches have to be perfectly smooth. Any grooves and scores will prematurely wear the belt. Also like someone said make sure the plastic bushing is installed in the primary clutch bolt. It looks like such a minor part that serves no useful purpose, but it is very important.
I'm glad you got the problem figured out.
