Warn 2500 vs. 2000 ?
#11
The only problem I have with the Warn "A" and "U" winches is the plastic geared end housing that tends to strip out under extreme load. After replacing a few end housings (about $40 each), I went to an all metal Ramsey 2500. I built a mount using the 2" receiver system, and I can move it easily from front of my SP500 to the back, also put a receiver on my trailers and the bed of my truck to winch in stuff like dead cars, quads, and riding mowers - instead of straining a gut trying to push.

Keep in mind that a atv simply will not produce enough power to be able to use a winch to its full capacity. Whether or not the 2500 with its oversized solonoid and wiring enables more efficiency of the power supplied to the winch by the atv is probably realistic. So I would have to say the 2500 would be a better puller than the 2000. In this case its still unlikely the 2500 is being used to its fullest with a quad vs a pick-up truck. But for four wheeling its plenty. There are countless war stories out there on how our winches have saved our a$$es. Once you have one, whether a 2000 or 2500, you will be glad you do.
Another thing, the amps produced by quads will vary depending on the make and model of the machine. More amps, more power to the winch. This is why some guys winches' will bog down and barly pull them out. And his buddy with the same winch seems to pull much better. Have fun

Excellent posts, thanks for the useful info. I will look into the Ramsey as well as the Warn 2500. Any place you know of that rolls in the cost of the mount with the winch and sells them as a complete package?
