SPORTIER SPORTMAN
#1
I read this in a Dirtwheels magazine about a guy who modified his SP500,quote " I bought a Polaris factory manual and compared the differances between the Sportsman and Scrambler 500.I then ordered the Scrambler's larger 40mm carb (rejetted),longer-duration cam and lighter cluch weights. Hello! These parts really woke the Sportsman up.Iwas amazed by the incredible differance in performance. My friend's Xplorer 400 used to wast my quad but now I beat his machine easily. The best thing is the exhaust is still quiet and there is no differance in gas mile age."
Sound good to me but he never said how much$.

Hey Tim1, what issue of Dirt Wheels was that in? I would most certainly interested! I have been searching for the Holy Grail for my Sportsman for several months, finding that a clutch spring and weights gave me better take off, but as of yet have not increased speed. Also tried a pipe from AAEN and got more noise, but no performance. I'm still rying to beat the 44 mph max speed that I am at now. I know the 500cc's should do alot better than that. Keep us posted on this Sportsmans progress.

Its in volume 20 number 3 march 2000. Its in the letter section pg26.He also said before he did this he at first tried an after market clutch kit but the bike wound up slower than stock. He then put on a Hight-lifter performance pipe but it was so loud it was not worth the small gain in power. In frustration he sold the pipe and shelved the clutch kit.
