I snapped my chain and cracked the case a while back, I did a temporary fix on it but now I'm ready to fix it for good since I have it tore down to fix the starter. My question is to anyone who has removed this casing before, what more will I need to take off to get the case off? Will I need to take off the clutch pulleys or can I get to it from the chain side? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I tried to do a search but it didn't bring up any results. Thanks again, lata.

I am pretty sure you will have to take the gearcase out of the frame. Unfortunately all the "guts" are installed in the chain side of the case, which means you have to remove the gearcase to replace the chain side of the case. Actually you would have to remove the gearcase no matter what. I never had to remove the "guts" of the trans but had to reseal the gearcase on my 00 Scram 500 4x4. I think your setup is very close.

If you have the concentric drive system you will need to remove the clutch case and then the driven clutch to back out the left side swingarm bolt. You will need to take the chain off. There is a bolt on each side of the frame (close to the swing arm bolts) securing the trans. There are 2 brackets at the top rear side of the trans. There is also 1 or 2 bolts on the bottom of the frame. I had to remove my airbox, shift rod, and front drive shaft, then kind of roll the gearcase up/forward and to the right to get it out. There are shims in between the right side of the gearcase and the frame. Make sure you keep them all together and put the back the way they came out. When you reinstall the gearcase you may need to realign the clutch.. I think that was about it.

Hope I helped.
