The machine is a 2001 sportsman 500 HO, and prior to last weekend i have had no problems with it. I took it through some fairly deep water and ran though some shallower puddles at high speed. A few times after going through the water, the engine would bog when giving it full throttle and wouldn't idle w/o stalling. This cleared up after riding for a few minutes but then came back after going through only a foot of water (at like 20 mph). It has been a week and the machine still will not idle, and only goes about 25-30 mph top speed because it keeps bogging down (but not when accelerating, only at top speed, it accelerates hard?). If anyone knows what i got wet and how to fix it i would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
worried SP 500 owner

This happen to mine. My problem was the breather hose to the carb was plugged, cleaned it out, now she runs fine. Give it a try.

You should also drain the float bowl on the carb. It could have water in the bottom. I had this problem and that cleared it up. (bad gas)
