Hi there, does anybody know if there are special pliers available to install the cv-joint boot clamps on Polaris ATV's.

Yes there is! I believe I saw them in the Dennis Kirk catalog, for a measly $85
I think for that price I'd get a $.50 hose clamp.

You can't use a hose clamp 'cause it will hit the strut housing. I used a heavy pair of needle nosed pliers, they worked great! Thats what my dealer recommended. The clamp has two lugs sticking up, grasp each one and pull the clamp tight enough to hook the tabs. It looks harder than it is!

I went to walmart and paid 10 dollars for a pair of fencing pliers and they are it! I Tried every thing else and with this thing I put it on in a matter of seconds with very little strain. They are the perfect tool.

Auto Zone sells a cv boot clamp tool for @ 5, but a pair of small ChannelLock pliers worked for me...I made a special trip to town for the tool, and didn't use it. I like the idea of the fencing tool, too. Just be sure to get a good grip on the little tabs and don't bugger it up too much or you'll be cussin' all the way back to the Polaris shop for another one.
Also, IF you can get the old ones to come off w/o cutting, you can reuse them...but let me warn you, this won't work if you're counting on it...go ahead and buy them and try reusing the old ones...they seem to know if you're under pressure......

What are fencing pliers and what do they look like? Does it matter which brand?

I used a pair of snap-on battery terminal pliars, the points are bent a bit and they fit right into the points that stick up on the clamp, work great first try.
