Latest word on the best stem bushing and tie rod ends for '00 SP 500?
#1
I'm taking it in to have the dealer order whatever parts are needed after giving it the once over and will install them myself.
I've done the Hot Seat steering stem bushing thing and ended right back where I started. Do you have to replace the entire steering stem to do the job right? (I've seen them offered from I believe HPD). I have a feeling that since they changed the steering geometry on the HO that the new part won't interchange (assuming it's any better than what's availiable aftermarket).
Also have seen talk in the past over the improved tie rod ends that the HO (and maybe the 700) feature. Will any of these fit on my 2000 or are standard hiem style joints availiable anywhere the preferred way to go? (part #?)
I'd appreciate the help as I'd like to sort out what parts I need to source where, have all in hand and do the job right (regardless of cost). Just my opinion, but I think that the regulars on this forum are probably the most knowledgeable people on the net when it comes to Polaris and this has helped me out many times.
Thanks again,
John

The HPD center post bushing is the way to go for that. As for the tie rod ends, there are 2 ways to do that.
1) the new, upgraded parts from Polaris will fit just fine
2) for the ultimate in strength, you can get aftermarket tie rod ends, I got mine through MSC. However, they are a little trickier to install, as they require a spacer bushing because the hole where the strut bolts is larger than the bolt. Some people have drilled the strut hole bigger, but I used a bushing, so as to be able to use the Polaris tie rod end if I ever wanted to go back to stock. The MSC ends have a load rating of just over 8 tons, VERY stout.
Do a search in the Polaris forum for a thread titled 'tie rod ends', I believe all part numbers are there, as well as a few pointers on installation.
Good luck

Farmr123,
Can't thank you enough for taking the time to steer me in the right direction as I hate not doing things right the first time.
Huge help and lots of good info from you in the past.

By the way, for anybody else that hasn't 'got the message' on the search feature; use it. I could have answered my own question from other posts and appreciate even more Farmr's patience.
