Sportsman 700 = 7.96 MPG
#1
Has anybody seen the new ATV Magazine yet? They listed the mileages for the machines used in their latest monster quad shoot out. I think I saw the Sportsman 700 listed as delivering less than 8 mpg during their testing. Could this possibly be right? (500 HO's are looking better all the time.)

let me tell you something if you are getting less than 11mph and are not sitting there idling for an hour there is something wrong and bring it to the dealer for sevice. We had three of use with new sp700 motor serial numbers of #1) 000009355, 2)14235 3)14678 and we were on them good we all started with 7-20 miles on them that day and we went to sime heavy mud and we also had one sp500 ho. and a magnum 425. we were in 12 to 30 inches of mud getting stuck in holes and using the winches running high rpms and not covering many miles fast we had these results on fuel. sp700's used 2.1 gallons for 27 miles and the sp500 ho. used 1.85 gallons and magnum 425 used 1.6 gallons. Now lets be real guy's if you can spend $7,000.00 on a quad you can afford the couple of gallons of fuel to run them. My cal says on these new tight motors and riding them hard we ave 12.857 mpg and we are 300lbs men so that has to be considered as well, not bad. the sp500 wa 14.594 mpg and rider was about 270 lbs and just so you know we drag raced the four of us (sp500ho, and the three sp700's) and we had him by six quad leghts and oh yes let me say this the sp500 has 650 miles so it is broke in and when we get those miles i expect to see fuel milage at 13.2 mpg or better so I will let you know as I plan to put on 400-600 miles between may 15 and may 26.

For me the cost of the fuel is not the issue. The lack of range without carrying extra gas is. I do not enjoy carrying extra gas on the racks. I checked mine twice using the fill at the pump method. One check delivered 9.11 MPG and the other 12.44 MPG. The bike has appx. 450 miles on the odometer.

I can understand that I as well will not carry gas on the racks. I just don't think that it is that out of line with what the displacment is. I will say that polaris should have, and could have found enough room to give us a 5.25 gallon tank. I mean snowmobiles have nine gallons and now the displacments are getting to be the same. that means we need larger tanks but my guess is that they did not want to change the sportsman look to be diff when it came to the sp700. that would mean extra cost as it uses the same body parts and many other parts.we should all call polaris and let them know that on any future big bore quads they need to add more tank. Why get one of these beasts if your not going to live at "WOT" Folks tend to think I'm kidding about a sticking throttle being a good thing IMO, keeps my thumb from getting sore.
