Smokin', been a long time since I installed one, but here's where the wires go. I have a VDO tach normally sold by HPD (VDO no longer makes it)it has three wires..

..Tach.............chassis
..red..............red/white stripe
..green............yellow/red stripe
..black............ground/bottom of coil

I know I saw a nice Sun tach, I think it was 3" over at a Fleet Farm the other day for around $25.

Got a sun pro II tach from the Zone a few weeks ago and installed it and it works great(have to have it on the 4 cyl. position). Got a pic of it installed on my photo sight and yes he is correct on the above wiring. Connected the green wire off the tach to the yellow/red off the rev limiter.

Almost forgot, the autozone tach goes for about $35 and also can be wired to the lights on the scram so that it is visible at night whether you have the lights on low or high. Can also be waterproofed with a little effort. It's a gotta have for clutch tuning. Later and good luck!
