I take it that this is something that all polaris quads do? Seems like the more power you have the more it slips.

Yes, a fan will pull in more dirty air. So some kind of
in line filter might have to be added. If you've had your
PVT cover off as much as I have lately, the stock set up
alone pulls in enough dirty air, so I don't think the
addition of a fan will hurt it much. Since I've almost
doubled the power of my 99 TB, I haven't noticed the belt
slipping more. I fact, I get nose bleeds and lock jaw
from the big grin that I have on my face. LOL!!!!!

Like Modquad said, Check your belt deflection and clutch
alignment also. The stock engine mounts do alow the engine
to vibrate alot. So you might want to change them over to
the stiffer race mounts.

about the fan idea

why not just put one of the yellow prefilters over the end to help keep out unwanted air, and if it doesnt keep enough out just get some of the maxima air filter oil (i say maxima because it is extremely sticky catch the extra dirt) if the prefilter alone doesnt keep out enough dirt for your liking

We could put a filter before the fan but one other thing that we cant find a solution for is keeping water out.I wouldnt be able to ride in the water unless I figure out some way to put a snorkle before the fan and rout it where water is hard to det to unless you drown it.

Dirt isnt as much of a problem as the water. How would you keep the water out?

Presently have a 2 chamber box. The splashing isn't a problem, I have it mounted down inside the front nose, where the oil injection tank used to be. During some testing today, I was fooling around with some form of "ram air". Possibly fabbing an air "collector" for behind the nose-cone air grates. I REALLY need to get my temp gun back so I can actually do some accurate documentation. Just kinda killing time til the Pred gets here.

on the scrambler 400's and the tb250's wouldnt it be simpler and force more air if you eliminated the headlight and forced the air through there? only problem is no more riding after dark.

I actually have my small fan mounted inside the intake to
the PVT. If it draws in too much dirt I could just cover
the opening with a filter. A larger fan would be more of a
problem to keep out of water. If the oil injection is removed
you have alot more room to work with. Both mine and my brothers
oil injections are removed so we are working on putting the larger
fan into his 400 sport.

Hey Talon, it was mentioned before, about "sacrificing" an Outerwear. That headlight elimination that Beasty had is also a good one, thing is I'm running the 4-stroke plastic (w/o light or oil resevoir hole) This is gonna be the project of the week.

Have any of you guys tried the belt from the 700? Rumor has it that it will fit (I know it will if you have EBS) and it is made of a more heat-resistant compound, plus has cooling grooves in it.

I have no idea if it will work with your machines or not, but I do know that it helped a couple Sportsmans with a similar problem (belt seemed to slip some when it got hot).
