What happened to the Poo Desiel quad?
#3
The only one I ever saw was a slightly used one at a used farm equipment auction,it still looked like new. I was looking at a few other ATV's that were there, sat back and watched as people would jump on,start it up,then damn near jump off when the clatter and smoke of the diesel motor scared the k-rap out of them. Overseas, where diesel is the primary fuel for vehicles,it is probably selling better, but I have never seen or heard of anyone buying one. I think it was only offered one year, sales must have been bad,not even dealers carry one any more.

I used to see them at a tractor dealer that sold Polaris. I've been slammed for saying so more than once, but this was the stupidest quad ever built other than the Yamaha Terrapro (PTO shaft quad from 1988).
Clacked loudly like a damn machine gun and had a top speed of like 35 mph. Cost $7500 and weighed 750lbs.
The principle of the matter is that regardless of its torque, the quad is only as good as it traction for pulling. It doesn't weigh enough itself to pull anymore than a 500 Sportsman of that day could without breaking traction. Hook up an SP500 to a tree, hit the gas and you have all the power in the world to dig holes in the ground with all 4 tires. Whats the use of a diesel? Gas mileage was what some said, though that is stupid, cause its not like anyone is starving their families because their 4-wheeler gets less than 20 miles per gallon.
It was a bad idea. It didn't sell (except a few poor souls), and they don't make it anymore.

Yes, the diesel was intended for construction job sites. Most of them have 20 or 25 MPH speed limits anyway within the site, so speed wasn't as big a deal as the convenience of not needing 2 types of fuel & oil to keep on hand. Also, it did run ALL day on one tank of fuel. Brother in law had one. From a pure utility aspect it was a great work machine. From the 'fun' point of view, it was only slightly better than a Radio Flyer wagon and a hill.

it was supposed to be used on farms, and on jobsites, and bought buy the the diesal lover type guy that pulls up in his new powerstroke ford..
after the poor sales, i think they shipped most of em to other countrys where petrol is scarcer than diesal.
