Scrambler 400 Questions

Gas mileage is okay, but I would call it great (or maybe even good). It's got a big tank though so you've got quite a range. I have never mapped out the mileage, but we have gone on a trail ride that was between 30 and 40 miles and I still had not hit reserve (though neither does my Banshee).
As for top speed...Stock expect to see 60-65mph on average.
People normally agree that a Warrior does rougly 60mph and the Scrammy is about 3-5 mph faster that that.
Personally mine was clocked at exactly 65mph after my RcR Stage 1 kit, but keep in mind this was with a car speedometer so give or take some. Unfortunatly I never used a GPS on it that I can remember.

you'll have a lot of fun when tried it out the first time, they are big mean machine so jumping is not their real taste but they get the job done well in any trail situations,it handle good,in stock form you'll see that those quad are really in low output performances but they top at 62-63 mph with ease, remember this is a big bore 2 stroke so it can be turned out as twice HP they get when stock, the response to mods is
AMAZING,don't worry about that,it is reliable as you take care of it (2 stroke),the most gain with less of money will be the HOT SEAT speed
kit or the RCR stage 1 kit,as far for pipes, nothing can match the fit and finish/power and speed of HPD products, overall it is not a high performance sport quad, but ergo is great with a lot of suspensions travel and real nice snappy 2 stroke engine, the cvt tranny can be tuned for YOUR riding style and applications depending the mods choices and are very friendly running, enjoy!

i find on my 2000 ,400 i have more power to climb hills than any other quad.i go to the mountains some hills are 1/2 a mile long and it keeps going and going.i find it launches well of jumps but bottoms out on landings.it is fairly heavy and is hard to manuver on trails.i cracked the tranny caseing twice.for mods i have dg pipe,k&n airfilter, hupershift cluych kit, spidertrac tires.all in all its not bad,but i think im going to sell it next spring an venture to the suzuki z 400.

Something kinda wierd, but good. Last winter a bud's stock 400 and my (at the time 14.5:1, now it's 15.5:1) race mod only had a difference of a tenth of a gallon of gas during a days ride. Neither one of us babies things, so it wasn't like an economy test, just turned out that way.
Ken.....must've been the titanium.hehe
