my clutch will not hook up even in the mud. if i put on a new belt the clutch works great for a while then it will not even pull the front wheels up .i have checked the aligment to andit was fine. i even tried the hpd belt and all it did was put grooves in my primary.also i noticed that when i trail ride in the woods my clutch cover gets very hot. I think I might have a similar problem. I used to be able to wheelie my Scrammy (*when it was low on fuel...less weight) by just goosing the throttle. Now I can't ever do that. I've noticed my clutch cover running hot too, so I'm going to pull off the clutch cover and wipe down everything with brake cleaner. If the belt isn't looking great when I take the cover off I might switch over to the 700 belt -- my machine is still on her first belt anyway, so I wouldn't mind having the extra "peace of mind" that I'm running a fresh belt.

I think I would call Mike at HPD between 3-5 central and hit him up for some info. Their clutch kits work great.Did you buy the agressive clutch kit? Do the belts appear to have a burned look on the sides? There has to be some excessive slippage somewhere to be causing your problem it sounds to me. I hope you can figure it out.Bubba

If your primary has grooves in it it is probably shot. The face should be smooth from the center to the outside of the face

if your cover is running really hot you might wanna pull the secondary apart, and check for wear or damage.

i had the same problem with my 2000 scrambler.i put a dg pipe on it and the clutch would not engage at low rpms.i then tried a stiffer clutch spring (green) and it works exellent.as for being in mud the belt will slip when it gets wet.then you have to llift the back end up and goose on the throttle untol it dries.you can try that hope it helps.
