I bought a new Sportsman about a month and half ago and I am looking for some feedback whether or not your purchase has been good or bad. The reason why I am asking is that I am planning on buying another for whoever would like to go riding with me on the weekends (Wife, buddy, brother, and etc.) I would like to know which problems you've had and how long after your purchase did they occur, warranty coverage, and whatever you might think important. I would really like to have two of the same quads.

I had my first problem a couple of days ago with the transmission stuck in high. I remember talking to all sorts of people from different dealerships like Yamaha and Honda, friends, salespeople. Just about everyone pointed the way to a Sportsman. Just a little concerned about buying another one or recommending one to my buddy who is about to buy one too.

What makes me like the SP500 the most is when I trade bikes with my freinds and can't wait to trade back.Try it when your riding with someone jump on his bike for awhile and that should help make up your mind it does for me.

I agree, the ride compared to anything else is superb. The amount of problems I have had is immense, but I blame it on the one machine that I have, not the Sportsman model as a whole. I put near 1500 miles on it in 3 months, of which 1 whole month it was in the shop. I plan on trading it in just as the warranty runs out, hoping for a 2001 model, but probably will get a 2000 model same as mine. I will buy another, I had just way too much fun (when it was running) on the trails with it, not treating it like a utility quad, more like a sporty sand-duner.

Just go my Sportsman back today. Talked to the mechanic and he said it was just the shift linkage needed adjustment. They rode it around for two days to make sure nothing else was wrong. Checked out fine. I still can't see how sensitive the shift linkage can be. Well anyhow need to get some rest so I can sneak out of the house nice and early to go ride

mdscheu, my Sp 500 stuck in reverse once, and I had to take a pair of vice grips to jiggle the tranny pawl loose. Them adjustment rods are pretty sensitive, once your happy, don't touch em.
