In the past my Scrambler always ran kinda hot. The fan would run almost all the time if it was a hot day. After the fan died I took it off and my high temp light came on alot.
Now my fan is fixed, and while it's in the shop for engine work now is the time to upgrade my cooling system. Does Hot Seat Performance still make their high capacity radiator? If not, does anyone make a better radiator? What about the one used on the new Scramblers, it looks different then mine.

hey adamnieman,i'm on the same way,i look to get one too,i almost got the deal last year on the prototype HOT SEAT unit large capacity radiator, but in the last min they have it already on their pro-to racing quad so i didn't buy it,they no longer make them, they probably built just a fews in reality,if you're running hot let start with a colder spark plug, run good prestone like amsoil, liquid performance and a 70-30 mixture ...
get some water weeter engine cooler,at the right mix this stuff really work to keep hot down, you might think about what kind of oil you're using too, some good one run colder.i even hear something about the thermostha who can be replaced by a banshee one and the radiator run cooler then...

and YES,i forgot, the new scrambler 400 radiator (since the'98-99 models i think) use a another new lightweight aluminum, more efficient radiator,so you might take a look on the latest model first...

I don't know if it would work but it was what I thought about. East Coast ATV makes a lot of racing quads. They will build a YZ426 in a Honda Style Frame. When they do this they have to have a radiator to place in the quad. The one from the bike won't work. I am not sure what radiator they are using but, theirs may work with some modifications. Let me know what you come up with. I was going to try and remove the fan but was concerned with the overheating problem.

well,i don't known if i run my scram as hard as you but let me say this,i run my '99 400 with no-fan assist since long time and all i can
say never had overheating problem and i use digatron reading (egt,rpm...).it run at 1150 degree, plus removed the fan save some extra weight as well, but it depend what type of riding you go through,i mostly high speed trails ride so i didn't need it to cool down the engine for slow/muds conditions riding.

Adam, I dont know if you have a thermostat problem or a lack of flow. My 99 Sport even being punched .140 doesnt give problems as long as I'm moving.I do know my wife's scrambler (2001) does have a lower fan switch kick in and a lower temp light setting. Her fan runs quite a bit. The newer style Hayden fans move alot more air and fit next to the radiator.I would definitely go with scramblered and get the new style radiator. The water flow is different and change the radiator cap. Also run only about 15% antifreezeduring the hot months with a water additive such as redline's water wetter or Royal's purple ice. It changes water surface tension and transfers more heat. It really does work! Hope this helps.Bubba
