Xplorer Transmission

I snapped the rear chain on my Xplorer 300 4x4. Not a problem I thought, just replace the chain. Well, I found a large hole in the transmission case right above the sprocket that the rear chain drives from. It also had chain gouges on the sides of it. Is this normal? What can I do to fix it? Thanks in advance.
