My sp 700 has to warm up a good 5 min before it will run on it's own (about 10 degrees outside). my sp 400 doesn't need this much warm up. will this improve after break-in. got about 75 miles on her now. my dealer said it should be rejetted for the cold weather but i think that's a crock of uknowwhat. what do u guys think?

at 10 degrees you dont think that is should be warmed up>?! gees in the summer at 80 degrees i let the thing sit there and idle for 3 min and in the winter at 10 degrees it should sit there for atleast 10-15 min. before you even get on it..............i find somthing else to do..............your not helping the thing out when it aint even broken in by trying to drive it when it is that cold........people dont relize that the piston expands alot faster than the cylinder wall and when you drive it cold you are damaging the rings and skirt and the walls too and more than likely the head(s) also!....this is just a suggestion cus i have had 5 wheelers and always let them warm up and never have had any problems!!! just an idea...........and people wonder why oil comes out in places it shouldnt well thats from high oil pressure, it will find its way out of most seals and such....it will come out of your vavle cover and pto seal too. the internal parts are designed to run and a high temperature.....some of the time when i let it warm up it sits there so long the fan comes on so then i know it is ready to go........as you can see i hate to hear people no letting there motors warm up like they dont need it or somting well that aint true.....

what i mean is it won't idle on it's own, i never ride it untill it's warmed up, but i have to stand there and keep it running with the throttle for about 5 min or so. and what about the jetting the dealer said should be changed?

yoopermike,
where do you store your atv at ?? I would think based off your answer I would offer more comments...ride on

Your dealer is probably right. A richer idle mix would probably help. Especially at 10 degrees(wow!!). You shouldn't have to increase the idle jet much, Maybe the main is lean too. 10 degrees is probably a good bit lower than the carb was calibrated at when the atv was made. You may be able to find a new jetting setup that will work at higher temps also. Just $.02
