Default I Have a TON of Pred quest!

Ok..i can get a good deal on a pred. Im going to look at it tomorrow.

Now..this is gonna be my first performance qaud..i've drivin other bikes but nothing like this. im 24, 5"11, 180lbs, i dont want a scram or warrior or anything like this. I wouldnt mind a raptor but i cant get the deal i want on it.

anyways..how do the stock tires do in the snow?
How are the stock skid plates?

This might be the dumbest question yet but i've only ever drivin a clutch bike a couple times..how hard is it to learn? Is it 5 up? 1 down 4 up? I dont want to look too stupid trying to drive this thing! LOL Its gonna take some time to get used to but im gonna take it slow at first..im not stupid like some people..i've got commen sense! LOL

how is it for tight woods/trails? I do alot of slower say..20-30kph driving..will this bike do alright?

Tires again...can you go with 22s for more rear clearence? Do i need to change sprokets like on other bikes??

I think that does about it..thanks!

This too is my first sport bike. I been mostly on utilities and had a Scrambler and Sport, but this is my first cluch atv. It did not take long to get use to it, and the gearing is 1-N-2-3-4-5 or 1 down 4 up. The skids are good, they protect better then my brothers Z-400. I went on a snow ride when I first got it and it went very well. By bro Z-400 went better, but his tires are full of studs. As far as tight woods, I think it's geared a little high, so I got a 13 tooth sprocket from a XR650l Honda from Sprocket Specialist and plan on putting it on this weekend. I heard it makes a big difference. If you go to 22" tires with a 13 tooth, it would be like stock with the 20" tires. Then you could go up in size on the rear to get it back to a lower gear.

I went from a 500 Scrambler to a Predator myself. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! I never thought I would enjoy riding anything as much as my Scrambler, but this thing is awesome.

I bought a 13 tooth sprocket as well. It should be in this week, and I'm anxious to try it out. It is geared a little high for my kind of riding. Plus I have no need to as fast as it goes.

You'll need to play with the suspension. The stock settings are way too stiff in the front. I'm a bigger guy and I adjusted them until there was 1 3/4 inches of thread showing at the top. I adjusted the back until there was 7 threads showing. As for the rebound. There is a small cylinder right by your left leg, behind you. I adjusted this all the way down, then back up 22 clicks. It made a world of difference in the ride.

I also ordered a K N clamp on filter. It will allow you to use the airbox for storage. Haven't gotten that yet either.

Don't worry about shifting, it's come to you. Practice, practice and more practice. I wish I was practicing now.

Tha rezzie behind your left leg is your compression setting and it has 8 settings. The 22 clicks is the rebound, which is at the bottom of the shock.

I know you knew this, you were just testing us Predator owners, right.

Scott
no you do not need a new chain with a 13 tooth.

Hello Ge 4x4,

I do not claim to be an expert. I am going by three different guys I ride with. One of them races a Predator. He told me that there is not 8 settings. I can't remember how he put it, but I think the numbers are a guide. There are actually alot more settings than 8. I set mine at 22. This is coming from two smart guys and an expert. None of them are me. Take it for what it's worth.

I can't comment about the Maxxis rear tires that they put on them, but generally round profile tires work better in the snow than the flatter profiled ones. I'm compairing the flat profile Holeshots to the stock round profile Goodyears. Considering that you get about as much traction as your average 4x4 truck, the 2WDs should do well in the snow either way.

Learning to use a clutch on an ATV is a lot like riding a motorcycle, except it is a lot harder to put bubble gum cards on the spokes
