I did away wiyh my solinoid.
The solinoid seemed to be the weak link on mine.
Went through 2 of them in a year.
As for the switch, before you go installing it
you might want to think about getting the rocker(handle bar mounted)
Well worth the extra $50
If you keep it switch,
the left hand side of the rack would work.

I bought the same winch. I put the solinoid in the dry box.(put a little silicone on the nuts) The on/off switch I put into the side of the head light pod and wired my power into the 12v cig lighter. The rocker switch is an absolute must, spend the $50 it is well spent.

I also put my solinoid in the box under the seat.Have not had any problems with it going out though. If you use the butterfly switch put it on the left side of the rack ( if you choose the rack as a mounting location). I put mine on the right. Not so good. If you lean under the handlebar to get to it you tend to bump the throttle with your shoulder. I plan on getting a rocker switch as soon as a can afford one.

500DUCE,
Can you explain to me the wire hook-up without the solinoid. I have been having the same problem as you in regards to the solinoid burning out. I replaced it with a 1973 ford f150 sol and burnt that one too. One other thing to add; I have a on/ off toggle hook up. My solinoid is mounted near battery on the fender bracket.
