I bought my trail boss this weekend, the dealer gave me the "Universal Polaris ATV" book. It is like 130 pages of absolutly nothing. It doesnt have specs or information on my particular model, and whenever it begins to give you anything worth reading, it says "see suppliment". Is there another manual I should have gotten with my vehicle? I don't nescessarily mean a shop manual, but maybe an owners manual that says something more than "this is a handbrake, you use it to slow down"?
In the mean time, is there an online manual I can download or print up somewhere? Thanks

 

You just get a basic manual, in which most of it is on safty. On Polaris web site, you can get a parts manual, but you will have to buy the service one.

 

Where is the cheapest place to buy a service manual? Is it better to go with a clymer or polaris book?

 

The only manual I know of is the Polaris service manual. The Clymer manuals only go up to a few years ago, nothing on the new stuff. The manual should sell for $49.99 from a Polaris dealer (I work for one). Feel free to check out www.sportriderinc.com and e-mail me if you need more help.

 

the polaris online parts manual on adobe acrobat says that there should be two books in the tool bag. The 2003 universal atv manual (9917492), and the suppliment owners manual for the individual bike, in my case, a trail boss 99918248). The manual I got doesnt tell me anything I need to know, like spark plug size and gap, how to change a belt, stuff like that. I find that weird.

 

You can get a complete parts break down at www.partsland.com but you really need to get a factory manual for the specs.It sounds like you like to do your own work if so you will be like alot of us and spend lots of time in this forum. Brad

 

I'm in the same boat as you WideGlideXLH. I picked up my Sp 600 and Magnum 330 on Friday and feel like Polaris is cheaping out as well. I didn't even get a tool kit with the 600. Pretty bad imo to have spent over $11,000 and not even get a tool kit! I asked the dealer about it and all they did was shrug their shoulders and say "sometimes we get them sometimes we don't". I'll be sending out a letter with expressing some disappointment to Polaris this week.

 

I agree. You spend thousands of dollars and you have to buy the service manual......very cheap. The booklet that comes with the bikes is no good at all. Why would you do such a thing to your customers? It is not right.

 

Wide Glide, Check the paperwork that came with your quad. The supplement they are referring to is just a sheet of paper with all the specs on one side and a wiring diagram on the other.

 

a sheet of paper eh? I didnt get one, but if thats all it is i don't think I'll bother. I think Im going to have to shell out the $40 for the service manual.
Yeah, I wouldn't say I "like" to do my own work, but I'll break the thing in a million pieces before I truck it over to a shop that's got a couple guys in the back who are just going to scratch their heads and fiddle with it the same way I do. I wish people would realize that those guys aren't gods who are capable of any feats that we can't accomplish ourselves. They just have some fancy tools that say Polaris on them. Now if it's a warrenty issue, thats a different story.
If that suppliment is a sheet of paper, can you believe polaris gets $2.50 for it?
