sp 400 need more speed
I have a sportsman 400 and I want to get a little more speed out of it. I put a clutch kit on it and it really didn't make much of a difference. Is there a way to maybe make some adjustments on the actual bike, or to the clutch and carb. Yes, I know I could always get another fast bike. Any suggestions

I have an xplorer 400 with the 2 stroke engine and i would suggest the following: 1. Mid / low range pipe and silencer ( i have an AAEN)($250), 2. if you keep your stock 34mm carb put a 230 main and 35 pilot($5), 3. UNI two stage foam air filter($20) and remove the snorkel, 4. Dual stage reeds in stock reed cage. If you ever have to replace a piston -- go 0.020 over with a Wiseco kit ($100)and take 0.010"off the head. You can still use any gas with only 0.010" off the head but i always use premium. I premix my own mixture at 50:1 with Klotz oil. If you want it to rev a lot better have the flywheel turned. It can be turned and still retain the electric starter. I would go to the following websites: rcr, aaen and hot seats
hope this helps some

The SP400 has the same top end as the now discontinued 425 Magnum. We put an H.O. cam and a 36mm flatslide Mikuni (34mm bored out) on it with good results. The cam is the same as the 500 H.O. We also changed the intake manifold. That also came from a 500 H.O.
...... AAEN and Ritter cycle are great sources for Polaris aftermarket.
..... But Stay away from the AAEN cam, it is junk. I put one in a H.O. looking for more, it came apart, tolerances were 50/thousands out of round, the compression release came out and wrecked the lower end. So stick with a stock Polaris H.O. cam and you will be fine.
