I'm thinking of buying a Scrambler.
I would like to know if you Scrambler owner had a pure sport before buying your Scrambler?
Because I had a Banshee and I was mostly doing trail riding and you all know the handling is not the best in trail riding.
So what do you guys thinking of your Scrambler after having driving a pure sport machine?
Did you switch back to a sport quad?

I went from riding a 400 Scrambler to a DS650 and there was a world of difference! The scrambler feels extremely tall, narrow, and the clutch lag is very noticeable, even with a clutch kit. The power of the 400 Scrambler was less than that of my DS650. I wrote a fairly in-depth review of both quads here. The only reason I would go back to the Scrambler is if I was planning to add lots of aftermarket parts. With the Scrambler, you can race any sport quad and it doesn't matter if you lose. If you win, you can really rub it in that an overweight Polaris just beat their sport quad!

I had a 99 Sport,(same as a Scrambler 400), and I now have a Honda 400EX. The Sport was a decent quad. It was fast in a straight line with a couple mods, and it was comfortable to ride on open trails,(cushy seat, decent suspension).
I am much happier with the manual clutch. The auto was nice, but you find yourself wanting a manual, I did, anyway. After a couple hours of riding semi technical trails on the very heavy Sport, I would be flat out whipped from trying to manipulate that heavy of a quad around the trails. The cornering on that particular machine at trail riding speeds was horrible at best. It slid well, and was fun to ride if you had nothing to compare it to, but once you rode a light quad, that was made with handling and trails in mind, you realized what you were missing.
The Sport was a fun, and very dependable quad, but in my situation, I found one that, in my opinion, was far superior for my needs.

I have an '02 400X. I love it. My dad has a 300EX and my friends have various "real" sport bikes. I get the opportunity to ride a 400EX, Raptor, and Z400. I like all these bikes. I wont bad mouth any of them. We all have fun together. I still always come back to my Scrambler. I started out as a hardcore Honda guy. My faith is evolving. I can't keep up with these bikes in the long straightaways, but they can't touch me in the trails. I don't have to be shifting into the right gear all the time. I can gas and go as needed at any second. Like I said, I like all these machines, but I am spoiled by my Scrambler. By the way, even in the straights, I am not too far behind these guys. I can live with the difference since I mostly play on trails and alot of mud. My Scrambler jumps great also.
