Default Idle adjustment help

I have a 2003 SP 700. I'm thinking that if I bump the idle up a bit it will stop stahling out, its a pain when your plowing snow. I haven't gotten inside this beast yet mainly because I've only had it for two months now. Can someone provide instructions as to how to get at the adjustment point and what to turn. I'm getting a shop manual next weekend but don't want to wait that long, you guys know more then the mechanics.

Default Idle adjustment help

I've had the same problem with my '03 sp600. I took it into the dealer after I fouled the plugs so bad it
wouldn't start. I asked them if my carb. needed adjustment or re-jetted in the winter because of living in a colder
northern climate. They contacted Polaris and the answer was no "adjustment was necessary". My 600 is
running better but I still think re-jetting might be the answer for winter especially when plowing. Maybe this
could be a recall issue?
Also, after plowing and sometimes during, I put 'er in high and run it for a short while. Makes a great excuse
for getting some xtra fun time in and burn the carbon out of the plugs!!

P.S. The oh-so-helpful mechanic at the dealer said it "could possibly" help if I adjusted the idle.(I asked the same
question you did)
Let me know what you find out.

Default Idle adjustment help

The idle screw is on the front side of the carburetor (between the float bowl and cylinder). I believe you turn the screw clockwise for increased engine RPM. Move it either way until you get the desired RPM at idle. I will say this though, my '02 700 and my friend's 3 SP 600's all idle on the low side and we have all bumped them up a smidge. I also think they are a little on the rich side with the pilot jet. The rest of the carburetion seems fine.

You can access the idle screw from the left sde of the machine (left side as if you were sitting on the machine). Take the side panel off and look in there and you will see it. It is a fairly large screw in the vertical position with kind of a knurled head. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle and counter clockwise to decrease the idle. Make sure the machine is at normal operating temperature before you adjust it. It's a good idea to wear a glove as you usually burn your hand on the engine. I just try to put up with the brief pain. The service manual says 1200 rpm's., even though the owners manual calls for, I believe 1100 or 1150 rpms. You should also check your throttle cable free play after adjusting the idle. Hope this helps.

I don't think I know more than the polaris mechanics (well! mine mabey), it's just that I have one of the first 700's made (serial #498 with a manufacture date of 9-11-01) and I have experienced just about every problem with it that you can imagine. I seem to have all the bugs worked out now. I hope this doesn't jinx me.
