Nope, tires don't have to be approved for roads here, just highways. I have been on the interstate for a few miles to make trail connections before though. No law on the books here that says your tires must be approved. The "Not for Hwy Use" that is on the tires is there because they will overheat at highway speeds.
In Arizona you can only ride on the forest roads if you are street legal(horizontal signs), otherwise you have to haul it in to trails(vertical signs)...bummer. And No you don't see quads all over town (Like Utah) but is nice to have the option. You think a quad wreck would be bad ? A lot worse on a Motorcycle and they are everywhere! It is really nice being street legal so you can run into a town & get gas, supplies (if camping) , a bite to eat, or spend the night.
I love Arizona....Year 'round ridin' is the reason I moved here in 1972...

If you come for a ridin' vacation you may get caught in the beauty of such varied terrain! We ride & camp in the desert for winter & mountain ridin' for the summer. Check the photo section on http://www.ridingarizona.com and you will see many, many of the great riding areas. Plenty of downloadable GPS routes in the TRAIL GUIDE area also....Enjoy!

Wolfhound, I hear that brother. That is one of the main reasons my wife and I are moving out that way. Not too sure yet where though. Somewhere in the four-corners area. Just not sure which of the four states. Most likely the Durango area of Colarado. Who knows. I am excited about the riding possibilities.

Cheers,
INKMAN
