I seen there was a sportsman 500 motor on e-bay.Later.

Hi dbeck I see your from Missesota there was a company called cayuna that was from Minnesota they made some nice high rpm motors...

Bill,

Yes, they were made on the Cayuna Iron Range and were put in Scorpion snowmobiles. They are now sold under the 2SI brand name.

Go to there web-site http://www.2si.com/index.htm they have some very nice looking 2 and 4 stroke motors I have a old Cayuna motor on a old eagle ultralight 20+ years old and runs great.

Bill,

The motors run around $5,500.00 I'm hoping to find an alternative engine that I could pick up for much less. Some of the guys are using BMW or Moto Guzzi motorcycle engines.

What about the VW bug engine they sawed in half? Forgot the name of the company doing it, but I think they even retro'd it with dual magnetos. Not sure if it put out 50 hp though. Maybe with a few mods and big bore cylinders it could get close.

CRF450 weights only 66 lbs and claimed hp is around the 55 mark.

The CRF450 is a 4-stroke? What is that a Honda motorcycle engine? Does it have a built in transmission?

dbeck - a wrecking yard in New Brunswick has a used Kawasaki Prairie 650 engine for sale. 2 cylinders and no gearbox. 43 HP at the crank stock. Don't know the weight. $1000 Can.

Default Lightweight 4-stroke engine?

the CRF450 is the 4-Stroke motocross bike of Honda's. Yes it does have a gearbox. You're looking for an auto so you can mount your gear reduction box right to the shaft, right? Or doesn't the powerchute require a gear reduction?
