The other day I ride over a downed tree and when I got on the top of the tree with the front tires I noticed a putred smell that was surely a slipped belt. I was in low range and the tree was small enough that it did not High center the machine, Oh sorry its a sp500 h.o.. I was totally shocked that it slipped the belt and I didn't hear the belt slipping. I have read alot of people claiming that they went with the white spring and have achieved clutch engagement just off idle. Would this have helped me in any way with this type of riding. Also according to what I have read in my shop manual the white spring would be a higher engagement than what Is in it stock. Am I correct with this. And would the white be any benefit.

Thanks......

Yes the white spring would give you a higher engagement. No it would not be a benefit except for quicker take off. Thats it.

You could try heavier wieghts this would give more belt grip , but on the other hand you say it slipped in low range this does not usally happen so I would guess that your belt has a glaze on it or the clutches so I would try changing the belt and cleaning the clutches.
brake cleaner works well for cleaning the clutches I also after doing that use an emery cloth and rub it around the clutches going in the dirrection they turn and also ruff the edges of the new belt abit.
that is what I do but you may not feel comfortable doing that so brake cleaner itself will clean them good

Also if you dont do anything else to the clutches, I would change the secondary spring to get a better belt grip and better backshifting. The HPD violet or Aaen blue (I believe) are the good ones.Bubba

Tweeker, you get more torsional rate with the aftermarkets, and they are longer too which means more side pressure from pushing the halves together. Bubba

thanks bubba but if the side pressure is more does'nt that also affect the shifting rate like slow it down? if so then should you put in a steeper helix angle?? to shift up better and help out the back shift.

Thanks guys, I have to take a look and see if the clutch and belt are glazed a little. The machine only has about 30 miles on it all by myself and I have never noticed it slip before. I always use low range for any slow riding or work. I'm new to the belt drive clutches as far as mods. go. Although I had a mini bike when I was a kid with the same type system so I have a understanding for how they work. Well you know how it is, there is no better way to learn than to get your hands dirty. Bubba, white/and blue aaen, I may have to give it a try.

Thanks again guys..........
