Default xplorer jetting??

just woundering if anyone has rejetted there xplorer? if so what other mods have you done?I was thinking about getting either a uni or k&n filter, any ideas on which one might be better, and does it require rejetting because of more airflow, and what is this airbox mod i've been reading about, does it really do anything?I just bought this machine, so if you have any reasonably inexpensive ways to improve the performance it would be greatly appreciated. Default xplorer jetting??

Hey,
I have a modified 95 xplorer, if you want to just start on some things i would do this first. 1. Uni dual stage foam air filter ($25), 2. stock carb rejet - 35 pilot jet size,270-290 main jet size($10) - and adjust the air mixture screw - start at 1.5 turns out and then do a plug check ( ride it hard prior to plug check), take the snorkel off 3. AAEN mid range trail pipe ($200) but if you can't get a pipe just yet then take both plugs out of the stock pipe. 4. .010" to .012" off the head ($20-$30 at a machine shop), 5. Dual stage Boyean Reeds 6. Secondary clutch go to the next spring size and set it to postion 1 to 1. My bike is more modified than this but i did just this (minus the AAEN pipe) plus .020"over Wiseco pistion to my cousin Sportsman 400 4x4 and it completely changed the bike. He loves the power thats getting to the ground now. One thing i would strongly suggest is the Heelclicker primary clutch kit - it really makes a difference (club price $150 at atvnation.com) when trail riding or racing, i use the scrambler version with a red HPD spring. If i can help any let me know. i have some pic's of my bike under kyxplorer

Default xplorer jetting??

thanks, i'll try some of that stuff. glad you could help me out. Do you happen to know which jet sizes come stalk, and i'm not sure what you mean about the stalk pipe, and will taking the snorkle off be a good idea if i ran though some mud and water, or is there a way to seal the intake from water and mud? I will deffenetly put a new filter on though, and change the jets, THANKS FOR THE INFO!!

A stock carb usually has a 210 or 220 main jet and a 30 pilot jet. As long as you do not get in water 6 or 7 inches above the floor boards, you will be ok with the snorkel off - as long as you have a foam air filter. The stock pipe i mean the pipe / muffler that came on the bike - in the rear muffler there are two bolts - removing them will open up your exhaust- you will notice a difference. Remember that when you add the foam air filter - jet the carb- or you will lean out your gas/oil/air mixture - don't want to burn a pistion up.

On the same note: If I were to add just a Uni-Filter would going from a 210 main to a 220 be plenty? It runs great now with the 210. All I have so far is V-Force Reed valves and an EPI clutch kit.

If I were to add some holes in the snorkel to open it up a bit... would I need to go even higher on the main or even the needle??

My 2 cents, i would at least go up to a 230 or 240 main jet and 35 pilot, adjust the air screw on the carb and do some plug checks. You will be getting a lot more air to the carb by changing to a foam filter. i always left the needle in the middle slot or next to bottom but i alway like to run mine a little rich just to be sure not to fry a pistion. If you add a AAEN trail pipe you would notice a big difference with your current set up. If you pipe it i would start the main jet at 270 or up.

Xplor,

I would leave the 210 in if it were me. The old 400's came with a 200 main jet and a 30 pilot jet. The new ones now come with a 35 pilot and 210 main jet.......at least mine did. It is plenty rich stock, so just changing an air filter I do not believe would melt it down. It is your call, but that is my opinion. The aftermarket reedcage/reeds are actually supposed to require a smaller main jet, so you should be fine.

Thanks guys. I will most likely try and leave the 220 I installed and open up the airbox intill jetting is good... that way I may stretch some extra ponies (.001?!?!) out of this machine... start out a bit rich and work in some airflow.

Checked it out yestreday and the bolt holding the secondary in place was loose and almost falling out plus the belt is real shiny so some of the "zip" that was lost may be regained!

Now I gotta check the noise coming from the front.............
