#1
my sportsman packed in a camshaft and now im getting the shaft by cornerstone warranty.
said that 1100 myles is alot for a quad and they dont cover wear and tear . i said the cam is groved out and the rocker is toast sent pics and still said its not premature wear and that polaris hasent had any problems with the cams , if they did they would post a service bulletin and that it was regular wear and tear so if anyone else has had problems i would like t o know email me joeama24@hotmail.com it would help my cause and save me a grand
p.s. cornerstone is a rip

It's not just 2001's. We have replace cams in 2002's with around 1000 - 1100 miles. Everyone with worn out exhaust lobes an rockers. Polaris is like the rest they say they never had a problem. You can replace the cam and rocker around $200 if you do the labor. It's not a hard job. No special tools needed.

There was a batch of bad cams. Oil holes were too small, and the exhaust lobe wasn't hardened properly. (This is why the exhaust almost always wore out first).
It is NOT normal wear and tear, and it WAS due to a defective part (a few 00, quite a few 01, and even a few 02 machines were affected).
My brother in law has a 1999 Sportsman (non-HO) with 11,500 miles, no cam troubles, and an 02 HO with somewhere between 5000-6000 miles, wich never had any troubles of ANY kind (not one part replaced, nor one trip to the shop yet). All he does is grease them & change oil every 500 miles.
The extended warranty people are trying to take you for a ride, don't let them!
Start a thread asking for everyone with premature cam wear, and I bet you get 6-8 responses.
My local dealer had one with the bad cam, and they took care of it past warranty.
The cams seem to wear somewhere between 800 & 1200 miles. It seems if you make it to 1500 miles or so, you have a good one.
There is a guy on another forum, who put 13,000 miles on a Magnum 500 & never touched the engine.
