Default exhaust leak

how do you patch an exhaust leak where the 2 pipes come together??? I tried some gasket blue silicone and it bubbled out after about 1/2 hour of running, should i let it dry or will the heat melt it and make it bubble out again?

Yeh, that is not made for that much heat. I have seen tape that can be put between the joints, but can't think of the name of it.

I've had very good luck with the high temp rtv,it comes in a tube and is orange in color. The trick is to put a little on both joints and let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes then you make your connection.Hope this helps.

Well I just put some of that silicone on and I'm gonna let it sit overnight, if that don't work i got this stuff from walmart that says it turns as hard as metal in 5 minutes, and it says it works on exhausts. So I think i will eventually get it running right. The reason it is such a big issue is because that little bit of air that is getting out of the exhaust makes the darn thing backfire like crazy and it is loud and sounds like it has engine problems, the little time that that silicone worked that bike sounded like a new one.

Before i pulled it up to another 500 and ran one then the other and it was like 2 totally different bikes, but with the exhaust leak fixed it sounds like 2 identile ones, well I've said too much. thanks

Hey kblazk, I used the exhaust sealer tape (more like putty strips) that I think NCScrambler was talking about. It works great. I can't think of the name, it just said exhaust leak sealer (I think). It's a pack with a lot of strips that you can stretch (thin-thick). Good Luck

We fixed my uncles exhaust by mig welding it. It was split all the way down the side, and we took it off and clamped it back together and mig welded it, and it is fine now.

i put some stuff called quick steel on it, its kinda like jb-weld, it says you can use it on exhaust, it lasted about an hour and all burned up. You think NAPA would have that sealer tape?

Hey kblazk, I don't remember seeing it at my local auto parts store, but they might have it, you should call and see. I think you can get it at any motorcycle type shop, or motorcycle dealer parts dept (that's where I got mine). Good Luck.
