13 Honda Foreman 500 Starts then dies
Anyone have a fuel injected Honda that runs for seconds then dies? My father in law has a 2013 Foreman 500 TRX500FPM which means it has a shift **** to put it in 4WD and a foot shift lever. It quit running so he replaced the entire fuel pump unit with an aftermarket (he may have got it on Amazon) fuel pump. I’ve seen people take the top off the big cup that the fuel pump is inside and just replace the motor. He didn’t do that, his fuel pump was fully assembled. After he put the Amazon fuel
pump on it ran fine for a few weeks. Now it will start and run for 2 seconds then die. Seems like the aftermarket fuel pump is to blame but I hate spending money on parts that don’t fix the problem.
By now it has sat for years and needs the fuel pump, tank, lines and injector cleaned out. I asked him if there were any flashing lights when he turns the key on and I think the answer was no but that was years ago. I will update this posting with new info when I replace the spark plug, disassemble the amazon fuel pump, clean the fuel system, look for codes and look for chewed wires-(due to rodents). Clenches teeth. If he can find the Honda fuel pump that he took off of it I’ll take it apart and clean it and compare it to the Amazon fuel pump.
Didnt find much on U tube or the inner webs similar to this. The closest I could find was a Foreman that would run for several minutes then quit. He replaced the fuel pump, the relay and the injector and none of them fixed it. On that one replacing the spark plug fixed it.

I don't think I have had a Honda do that, but Suzuki 500KQs do it regularly and it is always the filter inside the injector, or the fuel filter in the tank. Usually the former, which is easier to get at, blow it out with an air line. In your case both are fairly easy to get at. Always change spark plug first, just in case that caused the problem. Old 420s had problems with the relays in the battery box, they would run for a while then stop and usually refuse to start until they had stood for a while. Oddly, the gear indicator display on the dash would often show a flashing line when this occurred.
