Are the new ones built more reliable than the old ones? Like if I look at an old one...they are very simple designs comapred to that of a new one.

A lot depends on wether you are talking brand new or used, if used what price range, where is your riding area/type. They all are quality machines today. They all have their own + & - , so a lot depends on what you intend to do with it. If you want to build full mod sleds Polaris are the cheapest and easiest to mod. If you want the best performance in a completely stock form probably Doo. If want a machine that will run forever Yamaha. If want to tinker and try and get the most performance either Pol or Cat. You just can't get the as much out of the current Doo motor with mods as you can the others.
Go sit/ride all of them and decide which one feels the best to you. Most brands have just gone through or are going through a major chassis change, so there are a lot of good deals on previous chassis sleds. But make sure you know what you are buying because and price, because previous chassis sleds are hard to sell - so make sur you don't overpay just because it is only 2 years old.

The ski-doo is hard to beat in any model. The fastest accelerating sled I have seen so far at the drags has been the Arctic cat F7 though. It just seemed head and shoulders above the rest at the drags. The most comfortable seems to be the Ski-doo REV sleds. They are right there with the F7 but have lower top end due to aerodynamics. The fastest top speed sled seemed to be the Yamaha RX-1 four stroke. I saw one hit 123 mph on an open frozen lake with what appeared to be a stock machine except for a clutch kit and carbides. It is a very difficult decision with sleds. I say sit on them and go with the one that feels the best to you, because the performance is so close. As long as it isn't a Polaris. I feel that they are junk and have to many problems.

I'm sick of repairing sleds. Well my sleds always need maintenance and a quad is so much more reliable. I'm pretty sure there are faster sleds than the Yamaha RX-1. Also think about it having carbides. They create extra friction. This is great for braking however. My friend's Formula S 380 will get up to 100KM/H and it's harder to slow down than my Mach 1 583 (with carbides) going 120KM/H.

When I use to ride I always liked Polaris and Mustard buckets * Ski-Doo*
I've never been much for the ditch pickles *Artic Cat* but I have no problem with them. Just my friends keep breaking down.
But then again that could be because he rods the crap out of them
