Raptor gearing seems a little high
Guys.....(and gals) I weigh bout 220. I go up Oldsmobile, Competition and Patton hills in second gear.... I don't dune more than 20 or 30 mph... Should I go down 1 tooth on the front or up 1 or 2 teeth in the rear... Does anyone else think that these Raptors are geared a little high... Help..THanks. All I have is a K&N filter but am getting ready to put on a White Bros E series slip on.

So if I was to do all trail riding, what would be the best combo, especially for slower, really technical trails? This would be for a 2004 Raptor! I could care less about top speed, dune riding, high speed racing, etc. I ride trails that usually are really steep up and down with lots of big and small rocks. I geared my wife's bike down just in the front, and now I'm thinking it could use a few more teeth in the rear too. What do you guys think on the raptor. I weigh 230 lbs so low end crawling and power is what I want a lot of.

Chris It seems to me from all I have read on the subject, they first recommend going down 1 tooth in the front , then going up 1 tooth at a time in the rear until you find what combination suites you and your terrain and riding abilities best. The Raptor is definatly geared a little to high for me. I also read that by going down 1 tooth in the front, you not only gained a more responsive bottom end but that you barely even effect the top end and lets face it how many guys are going ***** to the wall the whole day... except when your at the sand drags at the dunes or racing your buds on a long coooool straight away without any woops on an untouched stretch of beach,,,, with lots of babes..... naked..... holding a cold beer for ya when your done ridin' .......but I digress.... Anyway.. Back to gearing...... This is only my opinion and I could be wrong... I've been wrong before.Good luck man. Just so ya Know... I'm going down 1 tooth in the front from a stock 13 to a 12. I will then be glad to come back and give my review....Bob.
