No - Raptors are not that bad......just stay away from the 2001's if they haven't had the tranny update.

 

i know but i can get an 01 for $2500 and if have to throw in a 04 tranny for $1000 what about that?

If you can get one for $2500 and put in an updated tranny, sounds like a good deal! Make sure the quad's not beat, though.....check for cracks in the frame, make sure the radiator fan works....make sure the oil looks good, check the intake for dirt....all that stuff.

yea i never dealed with a fan cept on the rancher how do i tell if it works? i know its gotta be hott first but ?

 

Well, I guess the best you can do is ask the person if it works - look at it to be sure it looks OK - sometimes those break off if the quad has been jumped alot - the radiator mounts crack, too......so.....if it all looks good, I guess you just have to hope the seller is being honest.

 

i posted a topic about the 01 raptor trannys and a lot of the guys said they didnt have any problems with theirs. i think yamaha sells quality stuff and not junk so if i found a 01 for a good deal id buy it. but thats my opinion.

 

Id say get the 400ex..

Btw my stock 400ex puts a big gap between my 400 and my buddies 660 raptor.. still about mid 4th, then he slowy catches up..

yea i would get a 400ex and all bc i can get them cheap but I NEED REVERSE!

 

Why do you need reverse? Its just another thing to go wrong?

I had my first 400ex (im on my second) when I was 15, never NEEDED reverse, just got a workout when I got stuck [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Which isnt alot..
