Default Raptor or Z400?

Um...he says he's keeping his quad pretty much stock....again I'd have to say Raptor. And yes...the 2001 trannies go out like crazy, if the quad is ridden aggressively at all...I have worked Yamaha warranty, and my boyfriend repairs quads, and I can't tell you how many 2001 trannies I have seen replaced. The dogs on the gear are weak - the shift fork bends a bit, the dog (s) break off, and you have yourself a completely siezed transmission. However, if the 2001 has been updated with 2002 or newer parts (and it's been done well) then that takes care of that problem. IF you get anything newer than an 01, then that also takes care of that problem. Raptors are not junk....the '01's just had some issues.......

Default Raptor or Z400?

I knew I was right... I would be called slow somewhere in there LOL...

You did say full blown but you also said stock bore/ stock stroke! That is in my eyes is not a full blown Banshee! A 500+ stoker is a "full on Banshee" LOL And hell yes they are FAST LOL

I know there are some fast Shees out there, but the stock bore and stock stroke ones that I have run do good to break down into the high 4's. I'm not going to disagree with you that the right builder may be able to get them down in the low 4's but that just isn't the case in my area. There isn't a stock bore/ stock stroke shee that comes to the track that will stay out of my roost! LOL

I am currently running off the bottle until next summer (the stock rod is making me nervous) and I have my bike on engine alone running a 4.7. That is with no mods to the frame to lighten it up (which MOST banshees have). I have made a few 4.5 runs on NOS and have allot of room to gain on the bottle which I will play with next summer... I will be putting my Rappy on a diet this winter and doing a few more mods! As always I will keep you posted how the slow 4 stoke is doing LOL

As for the Z's and others... I just haven't seen them around here. I know you race alot so I'm sure you have seen them if you say so. I always give them allot of credit. Anything that is a 400cc 4 stoke and runs that good is FAST just like the new 450's are both fast.

Later,
Mike

TheRaptorMan, your slow :-)

No seriously though, I KNOW a raptor will BEAT a 400ex every time.. But in this case wiht me and my buddy (LIKE i was saying all along) I took the lead threw the first 3 gears, 4th, hes right on me, 5th hes 2-4 in front of me..

I dont know why people keep on translating my senerio into "400ex is faster than raptor".. thats NOT what I am saying, I openly admit that my buddies raptor wins, but I do take him off the line every time. You can say all you want, but it wont change a thing, I still took him off the line a number of times.

zccopwrx... I would guess that your bike is set up very well to come off the line with a good rider, and the Rappy is not geared, or set up right. If you are pulling him by that much on launch all I have to say is "GOOD JOB"

Ow I was going to get back to the matter at hand and forgot to... Darkman... I would say if you trail ride ALLOT then you would be VERY happy with the Z. I love to jump and trail ride the wife's Z it is lighter and has an awsome center of gravity that makes it a blast to ride. But when it comes to low end grunt on the trails the Rappy still has that fun factor! LOL Nothing like tearing down a trail and slide into a corner and go to power out and have the front end floating as you are going off the trail... LOL

your running 4.7's and leaving banshee's in your roost? wow...i dont know what to say about that.

I was only comparing a full blown 350 banshee to your full blown raptors because that is the only 2-stroke full blown motor you guys have a chance at. lol. But ive seen 7 of those bikes i mentioned in the 4.1 range and 4 of them in the 4.0 range, and 1 of them in the 3.9 range with nitrous. So,

on another note, i like the z over the raptor. I dont like sitting so high and the tranny shifts better.

I AGREE i can just drop in an 04 tranny and have it running fine but i also heard that the 01 raptors had like 40hp and the 02s and up is like 35-38 is this true?

im sure if you take your bike to a dyno you'll be surprised with the numbers. I doubt you'll dyno a bike and have it even close to its stock hp rating. Hell i dynoed a z400 with a pipe and filter at 24 horse.

I have a 2001 Raptor and the only problem i've had is a slight oil leak from a loose bolt on the bottom of the crank case (issue worsened by re-tapping it)

Anyways, I don't like trail riding with the Raptor, the clutch makes it a little hard to drive @ low speeds so riding around on dirt 20mph + is where i stand.

Also, i find the Raptor is quite a good Drag ATV, i've beaten everything i've run against so far.

BTW, is this faulty tranny covered by warrenty, i bought my ATV used and i dont know it's warrenty but im concerned with it because i dont want to replace anything

there has been many faulty tranny problems on this site and everybody that had a failure didnt get covered by the factory. One guy went as far as to get a petition with x amount of names.

how would a transmission problem not be covered by the factory?
