as regards the raptor trannies, what happenes is on the raptor, you have to go up dunes and stuff in 2nd. and for some odd reson, that is the gear that everyone broke [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img] so just take it for a ride if it is an 01 and if the trannie clunks when you go in or out of 2nd, than it is no good

OK lesson for everyone... This is how you can tell that someone both knows vary little about ATV's and is probably no older than 12....

Anyone that can claim that a 400ex is in the same ball park as a raptor without "Major" motor work doesn't know what they are talking about. The hp, and torque numbers aren't even in the same ball park between the quads.
As far as the z400 goes. It's not a bad bike, but still will not even come close to a proper running raptor same conditions. Espially if your running dunes, fire roads and open desert. My 400ex has advanced ignition, full white brothers pipe, KNN, jet kit. It is pretty fast. Nice bike in trails too. But even I will not claim that it runs even close to my 02 raptor with white brothers slip-on, KNN, and gytr jet kit. Both bikes are currently tuned as well.
With both mods on both bikes I would guess my raptor is pulling about 10 more hp at least than the 400ex and about half the torque.
These topics are so old school. Just do searches on 440ex topics. With exception of EX's running on alcohol and bored, you won't find any solid evidence to support that even a big bore EX will take a raptor with similar mods excluding the larger bore.

A full blown raptor wont even beat a full blown stock bore/stock stroke banshee. We'll get that straight first off.
Second ive seen the sparks z400 AND kfx and they are running just as good, if not faster then all the craycraft, trinity, ect bikes in pismo. No offense to anybody. By far the fastest MOTOR is the crf. I doubt you'll ever see a raptor run as hard as that honda motor.
Raptors do seem to break down a lot as well.

Im 20, and I owned TWO 400ex's, and i race my friends 660 a few times a week (weather permittin). SO Id suggest you check yourself before you throw empty insults. Im not stating a thoery, or what IVE HEARD.. I am stating what I do, what ive done.. Maybe my buddies raptor has major problems, who knows, but I surely can beat him of the line 3/5 times in a drag on a pit road.. Maybe its because I hook up better, whatever, but a gap is a gap.
He catches up, no doubt, but I put the first gap on him.
Thanks for sharing your side of the story. Now you must excuse me, I have to go play in the sandbox, like a good 12 year old.

As for the Z400 and KFX I haven't seen any that are really BUILT, but I seriously doubt they can even run with the stock 450's! As for the CRF.... It may have potential, but from what I have seen stock for stock they are still behind the YFZ and very far behind a "full on raptor"
As for reliablilty when you start to really build a bike no mater what it is there will be some reliability issues. That is just part of stepping up and running with the big boys!
To answer DarkMans question... The Z is a blast to trial and jump, and it is much more comfortable over long rides then the Rappy, but when you start to dip into the engine on the Rappy it will walk away from most 4 strokes in a true DRAG race! If you get a Z you will enjoy the trails very much, and could run in the stock 400class at the races and be very competitive!
ZCCOPWRX... A stock 400ex will not stay close to a Raptor or a Z. I see this over and over and over at the strip (300ft drag race). The stock ex is not even in the same ball park as either bike. Now I'm not saying that you can't build a 400ex and make it fast because trust me I have seen some fast ones. I have seen my wife win the stock 400class MANY times over 400ex's the only time she even has a race that is close is when there are other Z's, DIVIX, or KFX's at the track!!! Or when someone on a EX races tries to race a 440 or built bike in that class, but they are very quickly embaressed when they step up and try to run in the 4stoke outlaw class! LOL
I am not trying to argue just stating facts that I see eveytime I am at the drag strip!
Now I will sit back and wait for beech to tell me how a stock Banshee can beat my SLOW 4 stoke! LOL

Ive yet to hear of a raptor fully built with nitrous run better then that. 90% sure. But if you read my post i said fully built raptor vs. a fully built banshee. This is my comparison and the banshee would be built by the person i wanted. And i promise you it would be faster.
The z400 and kfx are fast. I wouldnt say they were if they werent. I know they were on gas and running the speeds that madracing's 470 was running, and it was on alk i believe. So, something to their credit. I believe both of them were running 63mph. I had my honda out there and it was running 77 while the banshee was at 87.
