Honda 450R vs. Yamaha YFZ450
Quote from Loren Duncan:
"I think the Honda has a more rideable dual-sport powerband. It's a hybrid, not a motocrosser like the Yamaha YFZ450. The Honda is a better quad every single place except on the MX course. The YFZ is a closed-course bike. Everywhere else the Honda is better." (ATV Action, November 04, pg. 94)

This isn't brand bashing! This is a candid outside opinion from a prestigious builder like Loren Duncan! Just good solid advice for any prospective buyer! Notice that I didn't post this in the Yamaha forum. That WOULD be picking a fight! I chose to post it in a more neutral location, like here in the Sport Quads forum.
Every machine has its particular specialty.............If you want an MX machine, buy the Yamaha. If you want a desert, cross-country, or fast open trail machine, buy the Honda. If you want a tight trail machine, buy the 400EX. If you want an all-around machine, buy the Z400. If you want a technical trail/rock crawling machine, buy the light little Rancher. If you want a duner, a dragster, or a mudder, buy the..................

i didnt say you were brand bashing, its just pointless to start another thread about it..but either way, what Loren says is her opinon that doesnt make the 450r a better quad..how is the r better for dune riding or drag racing?i rode both machines last week on some tight trails, the yfz was the much better quad..the only thing i liked better on the 450r was the seat, thats not enough to say its the better quad.the snap of the yfz was a little to much for the tight trails but thats what makes riding fun,the ride was stiffer on the yfz also but wasnt a issue.id buy the yfz over the r anyday, thats if i didnt love my polaris

You see lots of folks (particularly young kids), riding MX dirt bikes in the desert. It's entirely the WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB, but if you can only afford one machine, you have to "run what you brung". But, a lot of people like that MX handling, and every kid wants to be a MX star so the marketing hype sells. Truth be told though, 95% of those MX bikes will never see a track, and 99% will never see competition!
My point in posting this is that I have been saying the exact same thing all along! Nice to see it in print!

Maybe people but the mx quad and bikes because they wanna go fast and beat everything else and maybe have big dreams of maybe racing pro one day.Others are more laid back and just want to keep it cool ride trails and aren't that excited about being a pro mxer. It's what the people want to be. Some want to go fast while others don't.In my opinon I'd rather have the yfz over the r ,having both drove them both I like the feel and the rush of yfz over the ok moderate speed of the r.
