Default sport quad vs dirt bike???

I agree dirt bikes really out performs quads, except in mud, snow, and large rock gardens. Personally, I rode motocross bikes for 25 years until a bad motocross accident. My wife asked me to give up my bike. So now ride a Polaris Outlaw. I like it, but it's not the same. I can carry more stuff on fender and saddle bags and less in my Camelback pack. I do better in rock gardens now. Sand is about the same. A good dirt bike with steering stabilizer performace excellent in sand washes and dunes. I miss single track mountain trails, but in life things change, and I adapt.

I have a 2004 yz 450F, 2006 yfz 450, and I can tell you that the dirt bike outruns the quad with ease. When I first raced the two ( my best friend rode the Yfz ) I was pretty sure the bike would win by a little but WOW !! I pulled ahead so fast and so far that I dont even know what one has a faster top speed. I thought my bike went about 72mph and the quad 75mph but even when we were going near top speed it seemed I could pull away so maybe the top speed numbers are off, plus I raised the dirtbike rear sprocket by one tooth, other than that only have a whitebros carbon pro and jetting. The quad has about 2000.00 in engine and body parts. It makes sense that the bike would win but not that easy. Also its weird going from the bike to the quad cause this is really a kick *** quad but the power from the bike makes the quad feel weak. These 450 dirt bikes really kick butt, I would love to race against a 500 2 stroke ( no I dont assume I can beat it ) just to see what happens, If the 500 smokes me I would be afraid to ride it ! Im thinking it would be pretty close as the new 450's are lighter than the 500's and power is like 50 hp on the 500 and mid 40's on the 450 however with a pipe and proper jetting im sure im at about 50 but I have never put my bike on a dyno so I cant be for sure.

Engine wise both my bike and quad of tanks and very reliable. But there is less than can break on the bike unless I drop it over a cliff.

Get what your buddies have. Trust me. I rode a bike while everyone else rode quads. It sucked. It was fun but I always wanted a quad because they had them. So finally buddy decided he had to have a 660 raptor so I bought his 400ex cheap. I haven't rode the bike for awhile. But I probably will once it warms up some.

You still undecided?

What have you thought of w/ all the info given?

With everything said, quads and a dirtbike are equally fun in there own way!

I too have not made a decision on which-one I would rather have...
But, I do like the fact that the KTM 450exc r has the ability to be street legal; so I can justify buying one and double it for a go-around town type of vehicle.

and down the road buy a 400ex for my partner(actually me)...
*at just $60 a month from honda... my cell phone is double that!!!

you really need atleast one of each i grew up on dirtbikes, started riding at 8 switched to quads bought my first quad when i turned 20 a 1990 trailblazer 250, and caught the bug... since then i've owned several bikes, dirt and street but settled on a dual sport dr350 enduro bike for when i feel like two-wheelin ,street or dirt.and you have to have a quad for winter and mudholes my son is 9 and rides both too but prefers the quad. i just recently picked up a spare quad for when i want to ride with my quadless friends

bottom line get one of each the dirtbike takes up very little trailer space and is nice when you need it
