The restricting ring on the front pulley is what limits the top speed the most. Even if you remove the rev limit by modding the CDI, the quad won't go much faster. The collar in the front pulley needs to be removed. It prevents the pulley halves from squeezing together far enough to allow the belt to ride up to the top of the groove, thus no top speed.

That's the problem with KYMCO manufacturing the 07 KAW and the Mongoose...there are too many variations as to what type of restriction you have. I've heard that there is also a variation as to which wire color controls the CDI restrictor. I should have mentioned this in my earlier post...

Appreciate all the help. Thanks to all, am planning on leaving the wires alone and going for the collar.

Thread,

you mention on step 2 the following:

2.) Get yourself an air impact gun, 17mm socket, remove bolt on front CVT pulley, remove the outer pulley, hold the inner pulley closest to the engine after removing the outer pulley so nothing will fall out

How do you keep the pulley from turning while you are trying to remove the nut in front of the CVT pulley? Your help is much appreciated.

With an impact wrench, all you have to do is hold the pulley itself (the impact wrench works with successive "hits" as it's turning). You can remove it with a regular wrench but you have to use a tool to hold the pulley.

With the Kawasaki, I'm not sure if the collar is in the CVT front or the rear clutch assembly.

By the way, if you need a PDF of the CVT assembly, shoot me an email. It's the KYMCO 90 diagram but it is the same.

See above post with links: copy and paste the links in your browser...

1.) Restrictor boss or sleeve, it's grooved and located in the front pulleys. see 2nd link
2.) Restrictor ring or collar, located between the front pulleys. see 2nd link, the procedure is the same, just remove ring in between the pulleys.
3.) Restrictor ring or collar, located in the clutch pulley. see 1st link

First link: clutch = http://www.anythingatv.com/Technical...structions.htm
Second link: restrictor boss in front pulleys = www.scootertherapy.com/bosspage.html

The KYMCO is the same as the Kaw since they designed and built it...

NOTE*** There may be a variation as to what color wire you cut noted in the link*** Perform any of these mods at your own risk***

Removing that collar will open that baby up!!!!! Now if I only could figure out how to modify or buy a CDI that will let this little thing rev a little bit more. Oh , If you wanna get a front sprocket with more teeth(for higher top end) , Rebelgears.com has them. Part# 333 . Just tell them how many teeth you need. I opted for only one more than stock(16T). I think it was like 25 or 26 dollars. Not the best price , but I finally got one. Its the same part# as some E-TON'S and the 2001 polaris Predator 50 if I remember. 17T is the max with that 428 chain , otherwise you will need to buy a a extra link or two or o whole new chain.

Just thought I would throw that out there since everyone is looking for a little more speed for the kid's!!!
