Default ktm 525 vs outlaw 525

ATV Rider just did a shootout of the big bores which was the ktm 525 xc outlaw 525s and the raptor 700 They did every kind of test and the ktm 525 xc took everything from Trail Riding and MX to dirt drags, Hill climbing and sand drags. The outlaw 525s dynod in at 38 RWH the raptor 700 dynod at 41 RWH and the ktm 525 dynod at 45 RWH. The ktm 525 price tag msrp at $8,900 the outlaw 525s msrp is at $7,300 and the raptor 700 msrp is 7,100 thats just th regular one not special edition. Just the front ohlins suspension is $1,600 dollars and the rear is $500 that is straight off there web site. So just puting that suspension on either the raptor 700 or the outlaw 525 would make that bike more expensive then the ktm 525 xc.</end quote></div>

Ya..... but you're going to replace the A-Arms on the ktm anyway to make it wider, and then put some even better shocks on, then you're screwed with the ktm, money wise.

If it were me, I would just get a new intake and exhaust for the outlaw to add power, then get a +2 axle and +2 a-arms. Then add fox Float Evo X's on the front and just get the back revalved or keep the back stock since it's already a fox Podium X.

Your numbers are way off. The 525 KTM MSRP is $9499, the Outlaw 525 is $7199, and the Raptor is $7399. The Ohlins that are stock on the KTM are not there best shock, and will still need to be rebuilt for your style racing. That's another $700-$800 to the price. The KTM is a sweet quad so don't get me wrong. But you can get a real good deal on a Outlaw for much less then $7200 then you will for a deal with the KTM. Plus, the KTM only has a 30 day warrenty. Plus, the Fox Podium X shocks that are on a Outlaw are not much difference then the Ohlins. In fact, I read the 09's KTM will also have Fox shocks. I race my Outlaw on rebuilt Fox shocks that would make the stock Ohlins look bad, and they were much less then $2000.

Well i guess it depends on where you look for the bike personally for me i can get the bike OTD for $8,900 and i could get the ohilns shocks rebuilt for my weight for 200 dollars but i guess you are right the average is usually higher then that. Do you guys know if they are going to make a MX version of the KTM 525?

Rebuilt for your weight for $200? That is one heck of a deal. The springs alone would run that much. Who is doing them for you?

And you can get an Outlaw 525S for $5,699 here The only other fee is the $12 title fee. $3200 will buy 1 heck of a lot of mods. Especially when you are starting out with the same engine.

Now I have no idea what a BB kit on a 525 would cost but I bet that with that 3200, you could build that outlaw to 580 or 600cc or something and smoke the KTM.

My freind will do them for me he actually owns his own buisines and he is giving me a 100 dollar discount its usually about 300 dollars but i would totally get the outlaw if it it was 5600 i am trying to get 5000 for my quad rite now that about pays for that quad but i wont be able to mod it for a while because i was planning to pay payments on the ktm i cant pay payments on suspension, exhaust, the new airbox ext. Dont wanna do that i have been on both quad several times dont like the suspension on the outlaw at all the suspension on the ktm is way better there is no comparison. And my freind has the same ohlins suspension on his 450r and it is the best feeling suspension ive ever been on so im thinking still to go with the ktm and spend the 200 to get them rebuilt for my weight. I think that bike will pay off in the end the most.

it probably wasnt set up for your weight on the outlaw.

And about the payment thing, dont you feel like a real sucker to be paying 21% interest? I mean, they're really f***ing with you when you pay monthly payments, you end up paying almost double for the quad.

The ktm is tall and skinny, the outlaw is wide. That settles it 4 me.

Whatever everyone has there own opinion but from what i have heard and read in the tests that the mags did other then the price the ktm is a far more superior machine and if you can afford it i would def choose that over the outlaw. Its also a 1st year quad im gonna wait tell the 09 models come out i am hoping they make a mx version of the 525. And if not see what improvements they make to the xc version

to be honest I'm not a big fan of either one and the ergonomics they bring to the table....

Polaris never seems to get this part right for my taste, they always feel wide in the saddle, spread out and almost clunky and patched together....

the KTM not so ironically feels like an MX bike, narrow and tall in the saddle......

if I had to choose I would go with the KTM simply because it comes with more goodies stock and though it feels narrow the wheelbase says otherwise and the center of gravity seems OK.....

but IMO no one gets close to Suzuki and Honda for ergonomics except perhaps Yamaha.....they are different but still comfortable and nice..... with all that said ergonomics are a very personal thing.... they dictate your ability to give and receive input to and from the machine......but they are also dependent on what you are used to, your body type, your ability and what kind of riding you do......

I would buy whichever you feel more comfortable on.... not which one is supposedly better or faster or might have 3 more HP ....etc..... if think thing feels like crap and you cannot take advantage of it's handling then it does not matter......
