iv had good results with any of the razr tires i would go with an hmf exhaust they sound good and are affordable trail ridin you want some good skid plates too. the 400s are good wheeler but they dont take the abouse at least mine dont i had to weld practicly the whole fornt end back on it the frame and a arms are weak

What I did to mine.....

Protection- Nerf bars (DG Race Pegs)!!! Full chassis and swingarm skid plates (DG Baja). Bumper (IMS/Roll Dominator).

Tires- Indestructible ITP Holeshot XC's on Baja rims (these are wider and have a greater offset than stock, so you end up a little wider for a nice increase in stability). When I have felt like I needed more ground clearance, then ITP Holeshot XCT's and a gearing change.

Suspension- WorksPerformance QuadCross in back and Steelers with cans in front. (This quad eats huge whoops for breakfast!)

Engine/Eshaust- FMF PowerBomb header and PowerCore 4 muffler. EHS racing airbox lid with Outerwears, and ProDesign (Pro/Flow) adapter and foam air filter....and of course a rejet.

Other- IMS 5.3 gallon desert fuel tank!!! Tag Metals handlebars. One tooth larger sprocket (Renthal) in back for a little more low end power.

First of all, it needs protection.
I don't know if it matters what brand.
I went with PRM brand stuff.

You will also need protection.
I went with Cyrca Probend hand guards.
You'll also want some nerfs... probably with heel guards... or PRM sidebars

Rims... ITP Baja.
Tires... ITP Holehot HD/XC/XCT/GNCC or Maxxis Razr/Razr2/iRazr
Or if you ride a lot of wet muddy stuff, ITP Mudlite SP...

If it's a new to you used quad, it might be good to stop there until you push it hard on the trail a good while. Keep some money around a while for repairs before you get too much into performance mods. That's my advice, using my own hindsight.

IF there is one thing that you need to buy first and that would be a swing arm skid plate above all else! IMO

i agree with dodge57hemi. swingarm skid for sure. i trimmed my front fenders too. lot of guys do it for racing but i found it helpful on more technical rutted trails. you can see where your front tires are way easier and its free.

Number one is skid plates. I like the ricochet ones. You can get the full set here:

Ricochet skids for 400EX

for tires I would look at the kenda sport radials.
