Buying a Sport
#12
Get the Sport 400. Once you get used to being on a machine, you'd be dissappointed with the speed and power of a Trailblazer. Although a Sport is $1500 more, once you modified your 'Blazer you'd be just a little shy of that anyway. Plus, there's no mod out there that you could do to a Trailblazer to make it faster than a stock Sport. Or you could wait 'till 2001 when Polaris is supposed to come out with a twin cylinder bike that the techs are dubbing the Banshee Killer.

Are you serious Polaris is coming out witha twin cylinder if this proves to be true, My 60 hp sport will be for sale in a hurry. I think you should buy the sport you will not regret it the handeling is so good that anyone can ride it.

Why is all this leaning at the Polaris'? I have nothing against Polaris, but it is possible for something dirrerent to be better in this situation, ya know.
A 300EX, Blaster, or Mojave sound almost perfect. I'm 5'11", and a Mojave doesn't even get me cramped. This is probably because I learned how to ride on a Mojave, but I've seen 200+ pounders take these things through mud and jumps. Basically beating the crap out of them.
Since those may supposedly be too small, a YAMAHA WARRIOR sounds perfect. It's got enough to get through the mud, and almost any other crap you come across, won't get you cramped, flies, and is awesome in the woods. Go with a Warrior. If you will sport riding aggressively at all, you may be better off with a manual transmission. Chances are you will like the feel and control you have better with a clutch...
SOMETHING YOU SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION... Get a kick *ss quad right from the start. You probably don't look forward to searching for another quad right after you learn how to ride, do you?

No I dont really want to be looking for another quad right after. I want one I can ride for a couple years and then maybe get another. Do you think I should get a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? I hear 2 strokes have more "up-keep", is this true. I know their faster, but I dont want to be working on it all the time. The Warrior is a 4stroke right? Thanks for all your help.

Oh Yea, One more thing, what about a Wolverine? I hear they are GREAT. Or is that too advanced for me. Should I wait on that, I like the way they look though. Also, what about Lakota- my friend has one and he loves it, do you all know anything about them

If I was you I would get a 2 stroke. They are alot more fun than a 4 stroke. But I like 4 strokes too thats just my opinion. My 96 Trailblazer is a 2 stroke and it is very reliable all you do is add gas and oil when it needs it and go ride. It also has a good selection of hop-up parts pipes, carbs, clutch mods. It would be an excellent starting quad for you. If you wanted a Blaster I think they are good quads too but take more maintenance. 300EXs are not bad but I would rather have something quicker. Don't let anybody tell you that Polarises are junk. I used to think they were but I would'nt trade it for anything now.

Get a 400EX. It has incredible suspension, great power, and it really flies.
It is easy to learn as it is a 4 stroke, and it is so forgiving, it will make you a better rider.
I have had mine for 6 months, and out of all the machines I have ridden, I wouldn't switch. I have ridden: LT250R, TRX250R, ATC250R, Warrior, 300EX, Banshee, Scrambler, and Xplorer.
The 400EX in its stock form is just awesome. My girlfriend is learning to ride mine, and wants to get rid of the Scrambler to ride one of these. She doesn't even know how to drive a manual transmission car! She is doing great.
You won't get bored of this machine!

Not to down play anyone here. But you will never get a strait answer anywhere on this site. Only biased opinions. I ride a 00' 300EX, and I love it. But does that make it the best quad for you. Who knows? I don't, so I'm not going to convince you to buy one.
Here's what I do know. You are a beginner. So a "sport" quad is out of the question for you. Yes, they are super nice, and fast and have all of the bells and whistles. But if you climb on one and get killed the fist time you ride one. What's the point.
Here's what you need to look for. A 4-stroke, why? Because there is no mixing gas, less matinence, easier to control the power, easier to learn on.
Auto clutch, why? Learn how to shift a tranny and get some experiance before you switch to something more complex.
Something in your price range.
I would think something like a Honda Recon, Yamaha Bear Tracker, etc. Around 250cc and 4-stroke will be your best bet. A light weight, small quad. THat you can control, but still have fun on.

Thanks CSTARK that describes me perfect. I want a 4 stroke with the foot clutch and one that has power and speed. I was thinkin 300cc but would 250 be better. What about a loakota or somethin. One of my buddies nought a Lakota and he loves it, and has never ridden before.
