Buying a Sport
#21
Thanks all you guys for your help. I think I have mad my choice. I got a deal on a '97 Honda Recon for $2800. What do think? Is it a good deal. They said it has less than 40 hrs. on it. And it is in great shape. Lokks like it never been ridden.

baseball2b,
Buy the Recon, take the racks off, find a pipe for it, get some decent tires and VOILA! You'll have a neat little beginner sport. Use the rest of your cash to buy some gear.

Baseball2be,
Hey, good luck with the Honda. They are excellent machines and the Recon is a proven quad. I am sure you will have 3 or 4 years riding time on this machine and with regualr maintenance, the basic stuff, you will be very happy with your purchase. Have Fun, Wear a helmet..

Come to find out after takin a mechanic buddy of mine along with me to look at it. He said the motor was worthless, the brakes were shot, and it looked like it had never seen an oil change in its life among other things. So I guess I'm still looking for the time being.

Hang in there. Something will come along. Don't buy something, just to have one. It's better to wait it out and get what you really want. Winter is coming and someone wouldn't want to store one for the winter. Keep watching the want ads.

Basebal,
Yea, just keep lookiing, I know it is hard to resist the urge to get the first on in your price range, but the right one will come along. I made the mistake of buying the first quad in my price range. Now granted I was about to take a weekend and go quading with some friends and use their machine, but then i got a good job, so I made the mad hunt to find something quick. Although the LT 250 R that I bought seemed ok, and what little I was able to ride it i though i would go for it. BAD MOVE> I have had it blow up on me 3 times now. I have over $3000 on a piece of junk. I cant sell it, I dont want to take the loss just yet, but it is basically worthless. Good luck.

Take a look at a used Trail Blazer. They are great 4-wheelers! I have a 97 that i got really cheap. It did have a whole in the transmission case..but a little JB weld went a long way!
I am going to get a RCR kit for it real soon!
It keeps right up with my friends 300EX.
I think it tops out around 55 maybe? I've never had any trouble on a trail yet!

They are 2 stroke.
They require no more work than any other quad!
Fill up the oil tank and the gas tank. The use very little oil. I don't understand how! Someone explain this to me?
I've rode mine for about 4 weeks..I also had a Kawaski Bike with the same oil injection setup..over 5,000 miles on it. I've never done anything but change the plugs!
Whats your problems with a 2 stroke? With the full auto system. You are never at a lose for power!
