I love my 400EX. It is perfect for me. It does everything I ask, and then some. Sweet trail quad, like Andrew said. I enjoy wheelying over trail obstacles and the suspension is great. Still haven't got it dialed in yet, but I'm working on it. I don't mind lack of reverse. My uncle (owns a Sportsman 500) makes fun of me when I have to pick up the back end to turn it around. Then, once we get going, I roost his *** so he shuts up.

Hi!
I totally agree with Andrew. If only the 400EX had reverse, maybe some of us Polaris owners would have one instead.
I really like Honda and I don't dislike Yamaha either, but where I ride one must have reverse or will probably get stuck in some muddy downhill or anything like that.
Since I enjoy having some power, a modified Sport 400 is as far as I may go.
Why doesn't Honda put a reverse on the 400EX ? I'm not an engineer but how hard could it be?

OK, I don't want to start any fights or bashing here. But I am going to say what happens 99.9% of the time. Given equal riders, a 300EX will ALWAYS win on motocross, will ALWAYS win on cross country or trails, will ALWAYS be more fun period!
I used to have a modified TB and it was fun for a while but the automatic gets very boring to me very fast. On a 300EX you're always clutching and shifting which I really enjoy. Some Polaris riders said that moto-x isn't much fun to them. To each their own, but I'll bet that if you had a 300 or 400EX, you would have a ball on a track. In trails the 300's handling will kill the sports power. Who cares if you have bla bla hp if the chassis is like a tank? Also, I have never been fond of Polaris's fit and finish. Too many little things mess up for me. So I guess like I said to each their own, but as for me I will never own a heavyweight topheavy Polaris again. And by the way forget drag racing! Who does that all the time? Oh well pick whichever goes with your riding enviroment I guess.

I am just trying to figgure out why you ruled out the Warrior. It has reverse and can outrun both of the quads that you mentioned. But out of the ones you said, ok this is hard for me cause i aint never chose this quad over another one in my life. Hold on I will work up the courage to say it in a second, I would pick the 300EX out of the two you mentioned. Gosh that was hard, but if i was you i would look into a new or used Warrior.

Thats not always the case. I have a Stock 99 Sport 400, I ride with two buddies who have warriors, 1 is a 97, with pipe and k&n filter, with holeshot tires, the second is a 99 and still stock. In a drag I have them both every time, in the woods on the flats, or on smoth up hills, I can get the better of them. But when the ground is ruff, or theirs a bunch of jumps, they can both leave me behind. I have the power, but the weight and struts make mine harder to control at speed. On the up side to that, my ride "feels" smother, less harsh. I'm not a young man anymore (only 33) so I chose the Sport, I like the power, the speed is fantastic, and the ride smooth. My bike does NOT like to leave the ground, but then neither do I. The Sport was the right quad for me, my good friend chose a Warrior, another rides a Blaster. In all we all chose what was right for us, and while there are pros and cons in every quad, YOU must choose whats right for you, determine what type of ridding your going to do, how you want to do it, and then deside the best quad for you that suits your type of ridding. Remember, its not who has the fastest quad, its whos the better rider, that comes with time. Most riding groups I've ever been involved with, rides together, we wait for or go the speed of our slowest rider. If you leave everyone behind, one day you'll look back and no one will be there. I know I rattle on. This is just my 2 cents, well, maybe 3 or 4.

Mike Frey,

I'd just like to point out a couple of things. First, this topic was about 300EX or Scrambler 400 for open woods. Second, rather it's the 300EX or 400EX the answer is still the same. I think it's funny how you "Hondalltheway4every1" guys jump right in the middle of things and pull out the big guns from Honda (the 400EX) and you still ain't got nothing to talk about.

You are only running down your own quad every time you put down the S400. Everyone knows the truth by now. If the S400 is so bad, then how much worse is your quad looking? Think about it!

You sound as bad as these guys around here that gave $6,399+ for their 400EX and still can't out run a S400 on a weekend trail ride. And, the S400 is about $2,000 cheaper and over a 100 LBS heavier. I'd be embarrassed. That's like the NFL's highest paid running back getting out ran by the other teams 2nd string 350 LB left tackle in a 100 YD sprint!!

400EXtra funny!!!!!

get a 300ex there fast and reliable. it all boils down to a four stroke being more reliable.

A 300ex will not outrun a Scrambler on trails. I ride with 3 of them and they are way too underpowered to keep up with a Scrambler, regardless of how good the riders are. A good pipe and clutch kit (about $350) will make a 400 Scrambler faster than a 2-valve 4-stroke Warrior will ever be.
