utility tires on sport qaud
#2
My friend put rear 24X11 -10 Swamp Witch tires with aggressive 1"+ tall mud lugs on his Kawasaki 300 Lakota.
Stock was 22 x 11-10 with a 0.5" lug.
He notices his rear chain sprocket guard did not hit every object higher then 3" on the trial with the added ground clearance. He could go through nasty sections that once got him stuck easily.
Down side is his ATV one did 50mph and now it does 45 mph and bleeds off speed on long inclines when gravel road riding.
On slower rough bush trails they are defiantly a plus . We do not have to get him unstuck every mile any longer.
It's a 2wd so he did not bother with the front tires.
Here is a pic of it with the tires.
Swamp Witches are even considered extra aggressive on a utility ATV.

I always considered (and I think Kawasaki did too) the Lakota to be a hybrid part sport part utility. I would have no problem putting utility type treads on one.
As to a true sport (like the old Mojave) I don't think it would look all that bad if you stayed with the stock size, but going from like 22 to 25 it would look rather out of place I'd think.

Can I ask why you are considering this? Are you going for just a certain look or are you looking to enhance performance? Also what do you mean by "normal". It can look normal but if it rubs against plastics and throws off timing, it's not really going to do you any good.

I have done it for giggles before. I went from a 20" rear to a 25" and gained some decent ground clearance and possibly top speed(higher final drive ratio) at the expense of handling and acceleration. If your machine is chain drive you can drop a tooth on the front and possibly add a few to the rear to retain the current ratio. Smaller motors will have a tougher time turning those big tires and I don't like the way a machine feels set up like the Lakota above. You will forever be sliding onto the gas tank even on flat ground.
