I'm still on the carb/jetting as you mentioned it ran fine for a month with the new stator and it is running rich...did you verify the jets? Since it idles fine I don't see it being a choke issue...

If your jets reference back to factory and you think all is good in there I'd possibly look at:
1) air filter/passage
2) timing...make sure key is in good shape
3) plug cap...only because I've seen bad ones create similar missing issues as described

OK. So the quad is still missing and backfiring with no power at all. Here is all I've done since the last post:

Put on another NEW stator. Drained the gas and plugged the oiler and put in premix. Pulled the carb again and cleaned. Replaced the fuel line. (It also has a new coil/cap as mentioned in an earlier post.)

Took it for a test drive and the thing popped and missed the whole time. Would bog down going up hills and then have lots of power, then bog down again. On the way back to the house it flat out died and now I can't get it going again. I may have fouled a plug....or it may have died.

Sounds like you've replaced everything except the cdi...

Recheck these things from the trouble shooting guide. Plus isolate the black wire from the cdi.

Backfiring
ETC or speed limiter system
malfunction
Fouled spark plug or incorrect plug
or plug gap
Carburetion faulty - lean condition
Exhaust system air leaks
Ignition system faulty:
Spark plug cap cracked/broken
Ignition coil faulty
Ignition or kill switch circuit faulty
Ignition timing incorrect
Sheared flywheel key
Poor connections in ignition system
Reeds broken or bent
Air leaks in intake or crankcase

I couldn't agree more on this. I know the oem or other reputable stators from places like Ricks cost more, but with all the 15-20 buck stators showing up on ebay and amazon,it's hard for people to resist taking the chance on one.
