Default Question on Reed cage and intake boot for Zilla

Will the intake boot and reed cage off of an '87 Lt500 work on a 1990 LT500, and is there any gain from changing over. I had heard that the '87 reed and intake was better or were they talking about the cylinder design? Thanks.

Default Question on Reed cage and intake boot for Zilla

Hollywood614, The reed cage and the boot for the 87 lt500 differs from the 88-90 lt500 reed cage and boot. It wont work Look at # 27 & 32 in the picture 87 reed cage and boot then look at #27 & 34 in this picture 88-90 lt500 reed cage and boot
If you look closely , the mounting holes are different . therefor it wont bolt up.

Oh yeah Hollywood, check you pm....i couldnt find the extra nerfbars for you in storage. Sorry man

You're right Zig.... Definitely won't work!
The '87 has a much larger unit.

Thanks for the help and quick replies. Glad to know that now. Can you recommend a good set of reeds to put in my 1990 Zilla?

Default Question on Reed cage and intake boot for Zilla

i tell ya what.....i tried out those moose carbon fiber reeds for my 87 and the throttle responce was awesome. As of right now I have a V-force reed cage and reeds just waiting for me to get off my lazy *** and get my machine back together. Jeff Tudor has a V-force set up for the 87,which yours truly just happened to find enough spare change in the washer and dryer to purchase. Ill let you know how it is as soon as i get the beast roaring again.

Default Question on Reed cage and intake boot for Zilla

I have an 88. It had the same reeds as your 90. When I had the stock cage I ran the V-force and I liked them. Then I welded on the bigger 87 style cage and ran the bigger V-forces. On the smaller cage like the 88, I really think they are worth running as far as after market reeds go. The 87's it's questionable. Just what I've seen. Also reed spacers (.250 - .375) didn't help at all on the dyno.

I'm going to have to agree with Halfliter on this one... I can see the V-force helping on the small reed motor... but the '87 stocker is a pretty decent unit... fit it with some good quality reed petals, and zoom!
I have no dyno testing to back me up... just seat of the pants.

Seat of the pants is what counts. We dont ride dynos. We just lie about the numbers they spit out.
