Default How hot should my cylinder be?

Ok guys, here's the thing the last time i owned a LT250R was about 5 years ago so i can't remember if my old one ran as hot as the one i just bought. My cylinder gets so hot after only about 5 minutes of riding that you can't touch it for more than a second. Here's the details: Coolant is full, I warm it up properly before riding, its running a 290 main jet and i don't think i could go much richer cuz with this main it is running very rich. I'd like to hear from other LT 250R owners, do your machines get this hot, and if not what do you think can be wrong, it runs fine just gets really hot. thanx

If you can make full contact to the jug at all with your bare skin and not get burnt at all it's probably ok. That’s about how both of mine have been when fully warmed up.

My 86 ran 160-170 on the outside of the cylinder on a 90 degree day riding hard which I think is a little on the cool side. I haven’t checked the 91 yet but it feels near the same. Maybe a little warmer if anything, but the 86 has one of those aluminum inline super cooler deals, which may or may not be making any real difference.

I checked mine with an infrared thermometer that I got of Ebay for 56$ and would recommend one to any atv rider.
