I think the YFZ would win in every aspect of the sport.

I raced a couple of YFZ's with my LT250. Mine's an 87 and a good runner, and I got beat pretty good. The ones I raced had pipe or baffle removed, air lid off and jetting. Raced uphill, and they were pulling away right from the start. Wasn't a horrible *** whipping, but a beatin' nonetheless. Several bike lengths up a dune.

Sounds like the old 250r's still hold their own pretty good Shady. It still amazes me how good they were and still are.

I just put a Paul Turner midrange pipe on, eliminated my airbox, and got it jetted just right. The power and especially the (right NOW) responsiveness are extremely good. The powerband starts way down low and just pulls hard all the way up. I'm sending the cylinder off for porting this winter and also some headwork. That plus A arms and decent shocks, and for my very modest investment I'm competetive with anything. Darn hard to beat the old LT. Plus, I got 54 feet of air with it last dune trip on wore out stock suspension & it didn't break anything.

How can you go wrong with that?

My brother(lt250rider) raced a 450 and losed by a quad length. The 450 had the baffle off thoe. And my btother has a fmf fatty pipe, and k&N air filter. But the lt was in the lead to start to 3/4 of 300ft, but then the 450 flew past him and won.

one of my buds has a yfz450.he has baffel out, filter, jetted, and runs on cam2.he beats me in the 300" by about 2 lengths.on top end i pass him though.he has 18"tires.that race was with 13/42 gearing.i think with the stock 12/42 it will hold its own better.i dought win tho.the kid is a real good rider too.he races it indoors and in arena cross?? and stuff like that.
