Does anyone know what shocks from other quads would fit on the Lt250r?

Default Interchangeability of shocks

Can anybody tell me if the front shocks from my 1992 LT 250R fit on my 1986 LT 250R? I was also curious which quad is the better quad of the two. Both have excellent engines and and alot of the parts and componets on the 92 are stock but are in like new condition. The 86 was rather rusty at first but I sand blasted the frame and had it painted and have added all sorts of aftermarket accessories such as FMF Fatty Pipe,FMF power core 2 Silecer, boyseen power reeds, rebuilt the clutch, replaced the piston with weisco .50 Piston Kit, JT 11t c/s sprocket, and rebuillt the carburetor and rear shocks.(Still need the front ones replaced though)which is the faster of the two and should quit putting money into the 86 and rebuild the 92 Quadracer?

The 92 should have a better motor than the 86. (power valve maybe?) The shocks are different also and I don't think they are interchangable.

i just put a pair of works dual rate front shocks off of a honda 250x, 300ex, on my 85 lt, all it had to do to make them work was change the lower bushings out and replace them with stock honda 400ex shock bushings, i got the buchings new from my bike shop. the shocks fit great, all i did was re-align the front steering because my bike is about 1 inch higher in the front. I put a fox rear shock in the rear. i got the shock on ebay i think it's from a cannondale, it was about 1 inch longer than stock, and i put washers on the sides of the eyes to fill the gaps.

i don't know haven't taken it out, just finished this afternoon, the front feels very cushioned from me just jumping up and down on the front bumber, the rear feels a bit stiff, but i think it will soften up with some use, i plan on riding it tommorrowor this weekend, i will let you know how it rides.

In all likelyhood you will find the spring rate a bit high by using the 300ex shocks on the front. Also, they are also about 1/4 to 1/2 inch to long. this is okay but if you do a bunch of jumping, when you unload the suspension it will extend out further and the shockload will be delivered to the balljoints. You probably don't want to do that for very long. You can put a spacer in the shock to shorten it's overal length and this problem will go away. I use works shocks from a 300ex on my 85 and had to change the springs, it was very stiff when on the track. Another option would be to raise the mount on the top by 1/2 inch, or you could raise it even higher to use 87-92 shock lengths. There was a guy selling relocated upper mounts for 300ex's on ebay a while ago, you could probably adapt that to a lt, if you have access to a torch and welder.

i believe 400ex, 450r,250r shocks will work on 87-up lt's with some adjustments, the 87-up shocks on the lt are longer than the stockers on the 85-6,i thought i read somewhere that they were over an inch longer.which would probaly throw off the front pretty badly. later

Ok i rode this weekend and the new shocks were awesome, the front were not stiff at all the were perfect, i didn't bottom out, and a few times i landed on the front suspension. I adjusted the spring on the rear and it also worked out great. i hit some good jumps and i landed very comfortably. I anyone wants to get a rear shock like mine i have seen it on ebay, the guy has a bunch more. I am also waiting on the HSD arms i won on ebay to arrive so i can put those on. I can't wait to go to glamis this presidents day. anyone elso going out there?

Dude, I hope you're not talking about these, cause they don't look like HSD's. I just got a set of HSD arms and they look like this.
