It's to handle any expansion caused by heat in the dif. If you check out the 4x4 's you'll see them on the front dif too.

You'd get water and dirt in your rear differential. That accordian vent is used on all the newer Artic cats,that way you don't have a tube running all the way up to the air box, puking oil if you over fill your axle housing with gear lube. I got some for my Wolverine,just have to put an adapter bushing on to make it the same size as the accordian tube.

Just something else that can fall off and cause problems to get more of your money [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]LOL. Joking it is a vent I would leave it!

I have the same thing on my recon, just leave it there. It allows the oil to expand and overflow into the accordian if it gets hot, then flow back into the diff when it cools down.
